Thanks to everyone who has helped contribute to Movember and Men's Health. If you haven't already, and you'd like to contribute, it's not too late to support a worthy cause. No pressure! Did you know: - Mental ill-health disorders remain high among Australian men, with up to 25% experiencing a diagnosed mental health disorder in their lifetime, and 15% experiencing a disorder in a 12-month period. - Anxiety was the most common mental health disorder among boys (9%). Depression was the most common mental health disorder among young men and adults, steadily increasing in prevalence from age 15-17 (7%) to old age (13%). - A significant proportion of men who experienced depression at a given point in time continued to experience it or relapsed. Men's health is in crisis. Suicide is the second biggest cause of death in young men up to the age of 19. Men Who Talk is a charitable organisation created by men, for men. It offers different, less intensive spaces where men can support each other, sharing what they wish. This is not counselling or therapy, but a chance for men of all backgrounds, through the power of chat and conversation, to see that it is OK to receive help and to talk to others. If you want to learn more about Men Who Talk, please visit the link below for details about their free online groups. If you think this would be suited to someone you're worried about, please share this with them. I'm taking part in Movember to raise awareness of men's health, direct people to the many sources of practical support, and fundraise vital funds that invest directly into the projects undertaken by Movember. If you want to donate to help reach my £250 target, please visit this link: https://lnkd.in/eN-GAW6t. "Trust your instinct. Remember, people often say "I'm fine" when they're not, so don't be afraid to ask twice." #Movember https://menwhotalk.org 〰️

Do you have intrusive thoughts? Lots of people have random stuff that pops into their heads every now and then. It might make you feel upset or worried. But for the most part, it has no meaning. If you’re having intrusive thoughts regularly though, and they’re interfering with your life, it’s a good idea to seek professional support. Intrusive thoughts can be related to a mental health condition, like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Or they can be symptoms of another health issue. Intrusive thoughts are nothing to be ashamed of, but they are a reason to reach out to a mental health professional so that you can start to feel better. Today is World Mental Health Day. It's a day to highlight the importance of looking after your mental and emotional wellbeing, as well as your physical health. However, statistics would show just under 2,000 people will choose to end their lives today, with 16 of those being in the UK alone. Suicide is never a comfortable conversation, but it doesn't mean that we should avoid it. Sometimes, going for a coffee, picking up the phone, sending that one text message, can open the door to helping us change the statistics, one person at a time. We never know what someone is going through, and I'm not saying we need to - but we can all make positive choices, to at least give someone one more reason to keep fighting, which is sometimes all they need. My inbox is always open to anyone, for anything big or small, for those who feel like they have no one else to turn to. But, there are also the amazing services of the Samaritans that provide support 24/7, if you do want support anonymously - https://lnkd.in/eb8ugpks This might be a difficult post to read, but I'd like to end it by wishing everyone a positive Mental Health Day, and find one thing to do for yourself or someone you care about today, in the spirit of mental and emotional wellbeing!
