Good to hear Councillor Louis Gardner MCMI MCGI MIoL commitment today to roundtable consultations with both the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce board and any other business in #Cornwall that has concerns with Cornwall Council’s potential partnership with the US Company, Westcore at Newquay Airport. Significant questions remain to be addressed by the Council, that has admitted it doesn’t have the expertise to deal with a potential development of 650 acres of land alongside the airport. Not least, how a US company with little or no commercial airport experience will ensure the future sustainability of a year-round airport offer that safeguards critical links to the rest of the UK. At today’s full Council meeting, Councillor Gardner avoided answering whether an independent airport expert had reviewed the current commercial operation of the airport by the Council. In any debate or consultation regarding the airport, it is critical to understand whether its current operation is good, bad, or is leaving potential commercial opportunities unaddressed in terms of its future sustainability. There are lots more questions to be addressed, but it is good to finally see a commitment to consultation with the wider community in #Cornwall.
