Despite being a widespread and persistent issue around the world, poverty is often seen as a result of personal failure. In truth, poverty is a systemic issue that demands a bold change and robust support from the system itself. Arnhem, a city in the Netherlands, has commenced a new debt-relief program for 40 – 60 families in one of the country’s poorest neighborhoods. The Arnhem debt-relief trial program will clear their debts without repayment obligations. Access to financial services can be a game-changer in the poverty narrative. By providing the underprivileged with tools like micro-loans and savings accounts, they gain the ability to invest in their small businesses, manage their income, and create a safety net for emergencies. This empowerment often leads to sustainable economic growth and improved living conditions. While not a complete solution, financial inclusion is a crucial step towards reducing poverty and enhancing economic stability for many. ✨⚖ To learn more about how you can be a part of this transformative journey, visit our website! 👉 www.giveahand.site #financialinclusion #microloans #savingsaccounts #empowerment #economicgrowth #povertyalleviation #financialempowerment #smallbusiness #incomemanagement #sustainability #economicstability

I’m proud to see this released - who’d have thought that the links between debt, poverty & living standards would have been so under-researched? Well, here’s #PushedUnderPushedOut - excellent work from the wonderful Kiri Adams in writing up our Christians Against Poverty perspective on the research I commissioned from Matt Padley Juliet Stone and team at Loughborough University. Already forming such an important part of how we communicate our work - this research really has helped us focus in on the minimum income standard as our primary model of understanding poverty. Not in that it is a poverty measure itself - it isn’t. But it does articulate that thing that can be hard to define when what you are so clearly against is in your name!!! Life is about so much more than surviving and scraping by - we are seeking a world in which all people can thrive, whatever their background. Life - and life to the full. Lots in this report - get reading, sharing, interacting, and watch this space for developments as we push politicians & policy makers to consider the evidence for change to the systems and structures that trap people in problem debt and poverty.

https://lnkd.in/eXDFSGG7 "Modern Britain: the sixth-richest economy in the world, with 12 million people living in absolute poverty. The latest official figures showing the biggest increase in poverty in 40 years have been described by charity leaders and politicians as both “shocking” and “horrifying” in their confirmation of the devastating impact of the cost of living crisis. It is a snapshot that will trouble Rishi Sunak in an election year, as he attempts to paint Britain as a nation on the mend, having been through the worst of the inflation shock triggered by the Covid pandemic and Russia’s war in Ukraine. The consequences for UK households are clear. Absolute poverty, when households have less than 60% of the median income in 2010-11 after adjusting for inflation, grew for a second year in a row."
Poverty is deepening in modern Britain – but will economic growth be the solution?

#UBI is coming and subsidized living will become the new standard of living. Been watching the money printer go Brrrrr and with inflation and high cost of living, the government is gonna be forced to subsidize its citizens to keep its economy going. Curious to see how this plays out. Say goodbye to #capitalism https://lnkd.in/gBM9VkyG

If you have heavy debt that is exacerbating your low-income challenges, check out this video. As a part of my docuseries on working together to thrive and escaping poverty, I am sharing my experience on seeking debt relief (consolidation, settlement, and negotiation). After starting Reflecting Inward as an NPO, I was prompted by my intuition to quit my 3 PT jobs and go on a sort of Eat, Pray, Love-type journey. Although, I didn't know at the time that was what was happening. I just committed to following my intuition as I moved forward. After almost 2 years of limited income (I was offering my NPO services for free and didn't have grants due to not meeting requirements beyond my control), I ended up with $49,000 in credit card debt. The night I thought of starting this docuseries, I realized that this was a great opportunity and situation to be in to show others how to get out of poverty/low-income situations. So, this episode is all about my investigation of debt relief programs and what that process is like. **If you find this series meaningful, please consider donating $5+ dollars to our GoFundMe to extend this docuseries into a professional-grade production; allowing us access to more resources, connections, and awareness to share with the world. Also, it will show big production companies that there is an audience for this content. All proceeds with go directly to the expansion of this project. Thank you for your generosity! https://lnkd.in/gKFirHmw

STATE OF THE NATION. At a time when our country is trending on the global media for facing its worst economic crisis, marked by high inflation, a falling currency, and widespread poverty, the government's plan to buy new presidential jets demonstrates extreme insensitivity to citizens' struggles. With rising insecurity, poverty, hunger, and homelessness, this decision highlights the disconnect between the government and the people. It is unacceptable and demands a more compassionate use of resources, prioritizing citizens' welfare. It's on record that our presidential jets have an average age of 12 years, purchased when most Nigerians could afford basic necessities. Now, as our country faces significant challenges, including a high debt profile, our citizens are in even greater need. Instead of adding to our luxuries, we should be focused on alleviating their suffering and finding solutions to their problems. For long, our bad leadership has made our priorities, as leaders, to be at variance to the needs of society, which is why we are headed now south, as a nation. To elucidate further, despite dropping down to the fourth-largest economy in Africa, with a GDP of $252 billion and a per capita income of $1,080, with huge debt burdens and borrowing to service debts, yet, we are spending $15 million for our Vice President's residence, while the USA, the world's largest economy with a GDP of $25 trillion, about 100 times our GDP, and a per capita income of $80,000, about 80 times ours, still houses their Vice President in Number 1 Observatory Circle, a house built over 100 years ago, and whose value is obviously less than the $15 million we are spending on our VP's residence. A reputable real estate company, actually, reports that the US Vice President's Official Residence is valued at about $7.5 million today. While we had earlier refurbished the old VP residence with $2 million, the over 100 years old US Vice President's house has only undergone widescale renovations twice, funded by tax payers money; in 1993 and in 2021. Every new US VP is free to finance any minor refurbishing from his personal funds. It's, therefore, time to stop this impunity, insensitivity, and shamelessness and refocus on the needs of our people. We must prioritize education, healthcare, and lifting our citizens out of poverty. Let us work together to build a nation that truly serves its people, not just the interests of a few. Let's rise to the challenge, and build this new Nigeria which is now more possible than ever before. -Peter Obi
