I am thrilled to tell you that I will be hosting a mayoral business husting in April, focusing on Greater Manchester’s business community. The event has been organised by a coalition of the city region’s business organisations: the Federation of Small Businesses, the CBI, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of Directors, the Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales, and pro-manchester. All the details and registration are here - https://lnkd.in/eV639bz2 Husting events are a unique opportunity for voters – in this case business leaders – to engage directly with all the mayoral candidates to gain invaluable insights into their visions for Greater Manchester’s future ahead of the 2nd May elections. So, what exactly is a husting? Picture it as a platform where candidates from all the major parties converge to present their plans for Greater Manchester’s economic future. It’s not about words; it’s about substance. Candidates will discuss tangible strategies to stimulate growth, ignite innovation, and cultivate an environment where businesses can flourish. For those unfamiliar with hustings events, they resemble a BBC Question Time style format, offering voters and candidates an opportunity to really engage. Candidates get the opportunity to spotlight their core policies and articulate their vision for our City Region’s economy, while voters can delve into the specifics of each agenda and help to make informed decisions on election day. At the heart of this event will be the Greater Manchester business agenda. Every aspect of our economic landscape will be under scrutiny: - from addressing business challenges, to delivering prosperity across all of our boroughs and diverse communities; - from securing environmental sustainability, to optimising public sector procurement; - from nurturing education and developing skills, to enhancing transport infrastructure. - and anything else the audience want to ask the candidates… And it’s you, our city region’s stakeholders, who will be driving the conversation with your questions. This hustings isn’t merely about making promises; it’s about presenting practical solutions and tangible actions that will shape the future of our city region for years to come. Whether you’re a seasoned business owner, an aspiring entrepreneur, or simply a concerned citizen invested in our region’s prosperity, please put the date in your calendars and reserve your complimentary tickets. Join us on April 17th for an interesting evening of political engagement, with business at its heart. I look forward to seeing you at the hustings!

A New Chapter for the Northport Chamber of Commerce! We're proud to be featured in the latest article from the Long Islander this week for our work with the Northport Chamber of Commerce. It was extremely rewarding to read first hand the impact our work has had on the Northport business community. . Read an excerpt of the article below! . The Northport Chamber of Commerce has made significant advancements in integrating social media and technology to improve outreach and communication for the community’s residents and businesses. Under the leadership of President Cary Bianculli, elected in Jan. 2024, the organization has shifted from a laxed approach to Instagram and Facebook to a more proactive one, where engaging the community has become a top priority. . Bianculli, who is also the director of marketing and membership at the Northport Historical Society, spoke about the biggest challenge for the board being a “lack of information.” As a non-profit volunteer-based Chamber, the board faced difficulties in reaching members the community, particularly amid the isolation caused by the pandemic. . In response to this challenge, the Chamber collaborated with Driven Media, a marketing company owned by Northport High school alumnus Jack Ebert. Driven Media offered guidance on leveraging social media and digital platforms for event promoting and community outreach. Cary added “The best spend was to have someone manage the socials.” The Chamber’s Instagram and Facebook accounts now serve as vital resources for community questions and spotlighting local businesses. . The Chamber’s website has also been upgraded to provide information on the events taking place in Northport, contact points, and opportunities for becoming a member. . With over 200 members and growing, the Chamber hosts monthly networking events designed to facilitate connections between business owners and residents. Outside speakers like economists or accountants are brought in to provide insights on budgeting, tax strategies, and economic trends. Member businesses also receive promotion through the website, further amplifying their visibility to the community. . A business or industry wishing to positively introduce itself to a community should include, among its first actions, an effort to educate the local Chamber and raise an awareness as why its business should be supported and promoted by the Chamber members. It makes business sense (explain how will the business stimulate business activity?) and common sense (why would the community want you in the first place?). Serving as the backbone of local business communities, Chambers play a pivotal role in driving growth, fostering collaboration, and advocating for the interests of businesses large and small.

Founded by American Express in 2010, this initiative encourages shoppers to patronize small, independent retailers, restaurants, and service providers within their communities. By shopping small, individuals contribute to the vitality of their local economies, fostering job creation, community development, and unique shopping experiences. Small Business Saturday has become a significant movement, with growing participation from businesses and consumers. Participating businesses often offer special promotions, discounts, or unique products to attract shoppers.
