On 17-18 September, our Data Modelling Officer, Robert Carr, attended the 11th Annual Challenges in Electricity Decarbonisation Workshop, hosted by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and EPRI at the IEA headquarters in Paris. This event brought together global thought leaders—policymakers, industry experts, and academics—to address critical challenges in the decarbonisation of the electricity sector. Key topics included: 📍 Electricity market designs for a safe and efficient transition 📍 The transformative role of AI in the power sector 📍 The impact of decentralisation on system resilience, using Ukraine as a case study. Lively discussions with a diverse range of stakeholders followed each presentation. GDU’s presence at such events is both an honour and an opportunity to contribute to the wider discourse on the future of the electricity sector and to highlight Ukraine’s most pressing challenges. We would like to thank the IEA and EPRI for hosting this excellent event. We look forward to participating in next year’s edition! 📸 Photo credit: International Energy Agency (IEA) #EnergyTransition #ElectricityDecarbonisation #SystemResilience #EnergySecurity #GlobalEnergyDialogue #EnergyInnovation

Join us this Monday @ 12:00pm EST, for the next seminar of the ESE 2024 Fall Seminar Series: The Janak Raj Lectures: "Energy Transition in Europe". Presented by speaker Tom TerBush, President of EPRI INTERNATIONAL, INC., Vice President of Sales and Member & Technical Services, EPRI. European nations have been leaders in tackling climate change, and the aggressive timeline for the energy transition in Europe has previously enjoyed high levels of political support. However, recent events threaten to dramatically increase costs and hinder progress. The pandemic's impact on the economy and supply chains, elimination of Russian natural gas supplies, erosion of clean energy industrial capability due to competition from China and the United States, and emerging populist pressures all combine to make the transition to a clean energy future in Europe an increasingly harrowing endeavor. 💡 Wondering what a complete cut-off of Russian gas imports would mean for #EU energy efficiency and resilience? ⚡ This is where Global Change Analysis Model (#GCAM) comes into action! 💡 Integrated Assessment Models (#IAMs), like #GCAM, are designed to analyse the interdependencies between human/earth system dynamics by running what-if type scenarios in specific world regions (#GCAM divides EU in 5 macro regions). 🔎 Dive into an insightful new research lead by BC3 - Basque Centre for Climate Change examining a potential complete cut-off of Russian gas imports in Europe, using #GCAM. 📈 Findings demonstrate the implications of a cost optimal response to this cut-off to consumer prices of wholesale gas throughout the EU and domestic natural gas infrastructure. 🔊Summer Appointment on 08/08/24- Stakeholders webinar on the ERAA methodologies 👉The ERAA (European Resource Adequacy Asessment) as set in the 2019 Electricity Regulation investigates whether the electricity system has sufficient resources to meet demand in the coming decade which sets us on a net-zero pathway. 👉The ERAA is based upon state-of-the-art methodologies and probabilistic assessments, aiming to model and analyse possible events which can adversely impact the balance between supply and demand of electric power. 👥Stakeholders are invited to join this webinar that will provide an overview of the methodological refinements in ERAA 2024. After ERAA 2023 report was published and later approved with amendments by ACER a further methodological refinements were prepared for ERAA 2024 as project to enhance quality even further. 🧠Remind that the ERAA exercise will be an important element for supporting qualified decisions by policy makers on strategic matters such as the introduction of capacity mechanisms, so… ...Join the co-creation of the energy transition!
