Stop 🛑 Read📚 Reflect🤔 Several post, mine included, have highlighted the role data collection and frameworks play in advancing health equity. This blog pushed me to reflect on the good and potential harm of race/ethnicity data collection (and insights) from the perspective of three Black women. I ask you to do the same and then like, share, or repost. ‼️‼️‼️‼️ These voices, these stories, these perspectives must be heard. 🌟🌟Here are a couple of highlights🌟🌟 “Because racial disparities are not a consequence of black skin, but a consequence of treatment because of black skin, we need a credible social/racial privilege index to collect and report public health and disparities data (Brown, 2023).” “data collection and data exclusion have shored up oppressive systems within which Black women have been erased.” “Centering the voices of the most proximal to impact reveals pain points too often overlooked.” Great read Dr. Elizabeth A. Thank you to everyone who joined us for “Evidence-Informed Futures,” the virtual #CSW68 parallel event earlier today. We are sharing highlights below from the speakers, who discussed new data-powered tools for movement support, building, and advocacy. They also brought up the importance of feminist data practices, from access to transparency, analysis, consent, and more. #SystemReboot     "We really need to change the map, because there is a very inspiring movement in the larger world that is already taking tech in their hands and shaping beautiful and disrupting initiatives." Lulú Barrera of Numun Fund advocated for a feminist tech that centers the Global South.   "We don't want to come and say ‘We're the voice of the voiceless.’ We're not. We're really here to ensure that the narrative changes and we're able to bring more grassroots activists into this space." Esther Mwema of Digital Grassroots emphasized how digital storytelling can reinforce autonomy and dignity. And that's a very powerful formation, but it comes with a challenge—the challenge of detecting those ambitious and expansive gender justice movements." María de los Ángeles Lasa, PhD, Analytics Lead at Global Fund for Women, on one of the motivations behind our Gender Justice Data Hub. Marla Patricia de la Cruz Rivas, an Adolescent Girls Advisory Council fellow at Global Fund for Women, brought up the need to think critically about data and ask, What is this data missing?    And to wrap up, Junemarie Justus of The Acorn Project advocated for a feminist approach to technology and the digital world so "we're not recreating the same power structures that have contributed to this huge gap to begin with."  Thank you to moderator Anja Tranovich for leading today's discussion.
