Hispanic Heritage Month: Path to Collective Power & A Three Part SeriesThis year, our Hispanic Heritage Month program will feature a three-part series led by Nota Inclusion speakers. Futurists are invited to participate in virtual development sessions covering themes like overcoming adversity, unlocking personal potential, and harnessing the power of connection.Mando Origel, Recorded Futures Latin Network ERG lead and Customer Success Manager, shared his inspiration for organizing these events.Boston Futurists celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with catered Mexican and Guatemalan inspired taco truck!How did these events come to be?"I have been wanting to bring something to the ERG where both our members and allies can take away actionable items to help their personal and professional growth and development."Why do these events matter?"I realize how important it is for all of us to connect with professionals who share a similar background. It gives us a story to model after and to get inspired by. As individuals, I think it helps us see what we are capable of becoming when we leverage the power of the collective. That could be family, community, co-workers, partners, mentors etc."Why do you think this is relevant for all Futurists?"We are all in different phases in our lives and professions, and I think we can benefit from learning about other people who are at a point in their lives where they are able to share their experiences for the world to learn from."What do you want to come out of this?"I really hope we are able to take advantage of this amazing opportunity to share and discover the potential within ourselves."Any closing thoughts?"This series is called Collective Power - I want to put some focus on that. I have learned the importance of community when challenges arise, and building that community takes work. You have to be vulnerable and ask for help. I hope this experience resonates with others at the company to share their goals, aspirations, but also challenges. This week, we kick off #HispanicHeritageMonth, a national celebration of our community’s past, present, and future. As we enter this month-long acknowledgment and celebrations, I am reminded of the incredible ways our community has evolved over the past 25 years and the tremendous and growing influence the US Latino community continues to have on the future of work. Did you know that #Latinos are projected to make up 30% of the US workforce by 2060? This demographic is not only large but also young, with a median age significantly lower than the general population, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to the workplace. Their contributions to innovation, entrepreneurship, and diverse leadership are reshaping the workplace landscape. However, Latino professionals also face unique cultural and generational challenges. From being the first in their families to navigate corporate environments to overcoming barriers such as limited access to mentorship and resources, the path to success is not always easy. These challenges are often compounded by the expectations of bridging cultural gaps and honoring their heritage while striving for professional growth. At LinkedIn, we're deeply committed to supporting Latino professionals in their career journeys—whether it's building more robust networks, upskilling, or navigating challenges unique to our community. Did you know that every May, we celebrate #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth to honor the rich history and contributions of Asian Pacific Americans? Like most commemorative months, it all started with a congressional resolution. 🇺🇸 This recognition was first proposed as a week-long celebration by a dedicated California State employee, Jeanie Fung-Rees, in 1977. It then officially became a month-long celebration in 1992 through Public Law 102-450.📅 I recently read a fascinating article on Google Arts & Culture that traced the genesis of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. It revealed that the idea for this commemorative week was sparked by the U.S. bicentennial in 1976, inspiring many communities to celebrate their own cultural identities.🎉 What struck me was the tireless effort of advocates like Jeanie Fung-Rees, Frank H. H. Fujii, and countless others who worked diligently to establish and celebrate this month. It's a testament to the power of determination and the importance of acknowledging the diversity that makes us stronger.💪 As we continue to celebrate this month, let's reflect on the significant contributions of Asian Pacific Americans to our society. How have these communities influenced your life or work?
