Myths and Biases Derailing Australian Human Services' Sustainability 🗞 Numerous myths have emerged over time in relation to how the third or nonprofit sector operates, what its resources needs are and what it contributes to the community. In turn, these myths drive the development and pursuit of unfounded biases in public policy and practice. This paper highlights these myths, linking them to the biases they inform in policy targeted towards nonprofit human service organisations. The financial sustainability of non-profits and charities is under increasing threat as costs rise, labour shortages bite and demand and complexity of services increases exponentially. The Centre for Public Value is responding to this challenge by presenting the Economic Paper Series. This series is made up of Economic Papers that are bite-sized pieces developed in non-economics speak and able to be readily digested by non-economists. Each paper focuses on a particular issue, problem or structural element related to the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of the community services sector. Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland #GMS this morning on the budget along with the brilliant Ruth Boyle from The Poverty Alliance who called for targeted action from Govt to end poverty. My call is for targeted action to stop the decline in women-led businesses and the growing gap in sustained enterprise participation. For - all women in Scotland to have the option of dedicated women-specific business support - for women-led businesses to receive a fair and proportionate share of business funding from all available grant schemes ( and for this to be tracked and measured) - for a dedicated fund for majority women-led businesses to address existing serious imbalances in access to capital - rates relief for retail businesses bringing Scotland in line with the rates relief in England. These actions enable us to #AddBillions to our economy every single year. And they will not just support women-led businesses - they will build the diversity of our business landscape, creating the conditions where innovation and productivity thrive - so we all benefit. #economy #productivity #leadership

New grants programme "Shifting Cultural Perceptions," is now open for applications by Friends Provident Foundation. They are looking for innovative ideas and projects that can help promote the idea that economic change is not only possible but essential. The Journal of Sustainable Social Change released research findings on the barriers that prevent and drive upward mobility in the Cape Fear region. The findings outline the same factors we consider at TFF, such as access to securing employment, earning a living wage, and participating in professional development opportunities. Within the conclusion section of the findings, two key points stand out and are worth highlighting- - “Producing social change is a people endeavor.” - “Lasting social change to upward social and economic mobility will require multifaceted solutions co-produced by government, nonprofits, businesses, and individual community members.” The Forward Fund exists to help individuals chart a new future through continued education and training for higher wages. Today, on the International Day Against Racism, we convened with a group of firekeepers from the World Ethic Forum to dialogue an economy grounded in relatedness. What does this entail, and how do get there? Allow me to share my insights. An economy that truly serves and nurtures relatedness should radically prioritize the equitable sharing of resources, responsibilities, freedoms, and limitations. To reach this goal, we must shift our focus towards valuing the act of sharing itself rather than solely what is being shared.
