If anyone wonders why I have great enthusiasm and energy for #podcasting, then here is an extraordinary example as to why. Podcasts create incredible opportunities to learn about the world beyond what is presented through traditional or institutional news media. Ideas. Stories. Conversations. With these elements, listeners will come out of a podcast wiser, more curious, and intellectually humble. And it's podcasts like this one about the experiences of the foster care system that add value to this new era medium instead of letting the medium sit as the butt of jokes.
The host and her guests are former foster care youths, who departed the system only when they aged out starting on their 18th birthdays. They have opinions about what they went through, things they would have liked to know at the time, questions they would have asked others their age — if only they’d had the chance. This podcast, now in its second season, is an attempt to fill the gap and share their wisdom with teens still in foster care across the country.
Podcast gives former foster youths a voice. They have lots to discuss.

After 50+ years of living in the shadows, Kevin finally has the answers to all of the questions he had about his identity. He can now see himself in the people he looks like, understand where his attitude comes from, and appreciate why he loves the foods he does. He has gone from being an anonymous figure in foster care and adoption to being able to connect with his biological family. This is a remarkable story of resilience and courage, and it should be shared with the world. It’s a reminder that no matter how long someone has been living in the shadows, it’s never too late to find answers and make connections. What other stories of hope and resilience can be found in the foster care and adoption system? How can we ensure that more people like Kevin have access to the resources they need to find their biological family and make connections? What can we do to make sure that all people in foster care and adoption feel seen and heard? We can learn a lot from Kevin’s story, and his journey should be celebrated. Follow the link in the bio to hear more about Kevin’s story, and how he found his way out of the shadows. #fostercare #adoption #delawareauthor #podcast
