Enabling Trust-Rich Pathways for What Matters Most

F1 pit stop times have improved by nearly 100% in recent decades - plummeting from around 30 seconds to an astonishing 2.5 seconds on average, with a record low of just 1.82 seconds. In the pit, milliseconds matter. They can disrupt strategic flow, team psychology. Send you to the back of the pack, cost millions, and sway the emotions of millions - whether with adoration or ire. At the #FIAGeneralAssemblies' JUST TRANSITION FOR AFRICA event in Kigali, I invited delegates (as MC, moderator) to reflect: We too are in the pit. And like F1 pit crews, we need to speed up - with equal intensity. In our collective race toward a sustainable future, the "milliseconds" we save can have monumental implications. Just as pit crews have revolutionised performance and shaped race outcomes, so too can actors in tourism, mobility, and finance radically transform their impact. That's what we dived into in the Panel Discussion (takeaways to follow). The evidence is clear: operationalising trust accelerates results. Nations thrive, organisations excel, and teams achieve extraordinary outcomes when trust is at the table. And few exemplify this truth better than Rwanda. More on that later as well: a masterclass in social trust and deserving of any global event seeking high impact, let alone the FIA GA. In the race for a sustainable future - at the heart of FIA’s sustainability mission - trust changes everything. --- Maria Mekies (Strigunova) (Thank you!), Barbara Silva (appreciate the opportunity), Sara Mariani (lovely to meet you), David Ashdown, Bruce Robinson, Daniel Shaw, Errol Bryce, Julia Pallé, Bente Kristin Malmo, Hans Gunleiksrud, Francis Gatare, Regis A.
