What's important for a charity stream on Twitch? It's no secret donation mechanics are a big part of the Twitch ecosystem & leveraging creators & their highly engaged audiences to attract new donors is a core strategy for most charities. But what do you need to consider? Here's an example from the work we did for GCX raising funds for St. Jude. 1. Production - for GCX we created a retro themed arcade for the event in UE5 ensuring a high level production across all of the scenes within the broadcast as well as in game branded overlays. Expectations for high level design assets have never been higher. Expand your reach by providing creator broadcast kits that can be distributed to creators looking to support your cause outside of the core campaign. 2. Boost donations - a huge part of encouraging donations is on screen visualisation through alert systems, progress bars & attaching rewards to thresholds met throughout the campaign. Bigger donations mean bigger on screen rewards & recognition for the audience. 3. Partners - sponsors for charity streams are pivotal, find interesting ways to integrate partner brands through sponsorship of engagement mechanics, brand placement & tying them in to any reward systems. 4. Incentives - The audience loves to make an impact. Tie incentives to the creators for each threshold met in the campaign like Dr. Lupo did here including prizes, giveaways & donation matching. 🔴 Video Games Make People Violent. And watching People Play Games Is Even Worse.🔴 Well you know what? I am tired of these clichés. Especially when events like ZEvent exist to prove them wrong. ZEvent, a French charity streaming marathon, brings together gamers, influencers, and viewers for a week-end long non-stop fundraising. ZEvent 2024 raised an incredible €10 145 881 for charities focused on environmental sustainability, mental health, and humanitarian aid. Yes, gamers, streamers, and their communities raised this amount by playing video games, collaborating, and engaging in challenges for a cause. This event is a powerful reminder that video games can unite people globally for good. It shows how gaming communities can be mobilized to impact the world positively. It’s about passion, generosity, and solidarity. The world is changing, and so is the way we connect, entertain, and make a difference. Gaming isn’t the enemy; it’s a tool, a platform, and a community that, when harnessed correctly, can change lives. 12 Tips for Live Streaming A Successful Charity Events!

This may be hard to believe, but since 2011, I have actually made SLATERSVILLE so far on $349K raised. That’s an average of $27K a year. A normal budget for a historical docuseries of this size goes well into the millions. For example, in an NPR interview, Ken Burns shared that his budget for “Vietnam” was $30 million over 10 years. I always cite this example with a chuckle by saying, “Well, I got the 10 years.” And of course I do other jobs under my company Breaking Branches Pictures. No one today can live reasonably on that figure alone. As you can imagine, for several years and still today, SLATERSVILLE relies heavily on volunteers, interns, grants, private donors and in-kind contributions to get it all done. The biggest game changer for the series getting done has been a combination of Covid and the massive generosity of private “angelic” donors from afar landing out of the blue, loving the work they had previewed and choosing to be a part of it. That plus every dollar everyone ever kicked into this thing from around the world, a passion for storytelling about the unknown, and the “let’s do it” energy my team and I have exemplified. That's the truth. And now, to have two Emmy nominations and one win, a Gold Telly award, 3 film festival awards and more is incredibly gratifying… Especially when the best of the series, IMHO, hasn’t even been seen yet. It’s also no secret that it has taken longer to complete these episodes than we would like, but these delays - discovering new content, working with the timing of families losing loved ones, additional filming and more - have made SLATERSVILLE so much better than we have ever anticipated. By the end of each episode, I always see that the final product has been worth the wait. NOW as we reach the milestone of completing Season 2, episodes 6, 7 and 8, I humbly ask for your support again. We must raise $25K as soon as possible to complete Season 2 and get it ready for FilmHub, which will get the series up onto a variety of streaming channels - possibly Amazon, Apply TV or more. This year has been all about exploring and discovering TikTok, and over the past few weeks, I’ve been diving into TikTok Live! Over Labor Day weekend, I took a leap out of my comfort zone and hosted a 12-hour and 34-minute live stream to raise awareness and funds for a family member's GoFundMe. The results were insane! 🕐 Total Time: 12 Hours 34 Minutes 📺 Total Viewers: 12.1K ⭐ Average Concurrent Viewers: 213 ✅ Shares: 220 ❤️ Likes: 457.3K 💰 Money Raised: $975 Not only did I get to push my boundaries and try something new, but I also had the chance to raise money for a great cause! 🎉 I love the online community I have built on TikTok and am so grateful for their generosity. It’s moments like this that remind me just how powerful social media can be—whether for personal growth or making a positive impact. I’m a reflector. I like to let things settle. To sleep on things. Mull and cogitate. So now it’s been four full weeks since our Charity Gaming safari, I’ve had plenty of time for the insights to crystallise and to see what’s stuck… And the biggest charity sector insight I’m taking from it is: Don’t chase the money! Gaming is a vast market. There are 44 million gamers in the UK. This is a market big enough to help charities deliver their missions, as well as raise funds. As Jude Ower MBE from PlayMob said, start with your mission and the money will follow. Erik Londré from Karta shared a great example. Ronald McDonald House in Sweden created a virtual experience in Roblox that enabled kids to connect virtually with their friends and family in everyday life, helping them recover while still in hospital. https://lnkd.in/epKGxj3R Some other take-aways: - Gaming isn’t one audience and you can’t lump gaming and gamers into one segment. You need to segment and decide who you want to target and why. Move past the sterotypes of who plays being Gen Z and Alpha, male, etc. - It’s all about authenticity, which means you need people in your teams who understand these spaces, audiences and activations. Don’t rely on one team member with a Twitch account to be your gaming oracle. - Don’t be scared of development. Low-code and no-code solutions mean you can create your own content cheaply and relatively easily. And if you do decide to chase the money… - At the moment charities are taking what they know works in sponsorship and community and transferring this into gaming, mostly as sponsored streams. But this activation suffers the same giving fatigue that offline channels currently suffer from. - There is so much more potential around gaming to generate income through creative strategic partnerships, and around-gaming activities, alongside NPD.
