Vintage 1990s Los Angeles Traffic – A Timeless Struggle. As we rethink the future of work and urban living, this footage serves as a reminder of the impact of city design on our lives and the environment 🚘 . While we’ve come a long way in terms of technology and urban development, one thing hasn't changed - The struggle to move through LA’s endless gridlock. 🚦 Did you know? 💡 In the 1990s, LA drivers spent an average of 80 hours a year in traffic, and now, with more cars on the road and longer commutes, many spend over 100 hours annually stuck in their cars🚦. #SustainableLiving #LosAngelesTraffic #1990sTraffic #RemoteWork #CommutingCrisis #EnvironmentalImpact #giwfootage

Streets and roads represent some of the highest percentage of public assets in our cities and yet, we continue to design them to move only vehicles and forget about improving access and safety for everyone else. There is still too much lip service being put towards those critical design elements. The net result is a “stroad” - the worst of everything and a public asset that only gets worse once it's completed. Kudos to Charles Marohn and Strong Towns for their tireless advocacy of doing the right thing, often against powerful industry interests. #stroad #mobility #urbanism

It’s critical that city leaders and decision makers understand that sacrificing a few parking spaces for increased safety and multi-modality can greatly benefit surrounding businesses. Especially when attention is given to providing quality urban design and streetscaping. Drawing more activity, helping to slow traffic, encouraging comfort and a tendency to linger, and providing a greater sense of place; all can help boost activity in an area and the surrounding shops.
Is your community at odds over the implementation of a Complete Streets or bike lane project that may reduce parking? A gut reaction may lead small businesses to believe that streetscape improvements will negatively impact sales. But is that true? New research shows that small businesses along a commercial corridor see an increase in sales (or no change) after the installation of bike lanes. Studies like this, and many others, can help local leaders assuage fears and anxiety about bike lanes to focus on outcomes that benefit all: increased safety, lower carbon emissions, and better economic output. Our President and CEO Erin Barnes created this video sharing the vibrant multimodal infrastructure of her local Main Street. The GOOD thing about the excessive number of parking lots in North American cities... ...is that they have incredible repurposing potential. Parking lots are usually located in prime city-center locations. They could be converted into productive public and private spaces where people can spend time, engage in activities and meet each other. This kind of redevelopment can massively improve the productivity of an area, increasing the city’s tax base and revenue. In turn, the city can invest some of that new revenue into improving public transportation, thus alleviating any inconvenience removing the lots caused. How to Keep Your Parking Lot Striping Visible, Safe, & Compliant Improving curb appeal is an important way to make your business stand out in the community, and parking lot striping is an effective strategy for bringing positive attention to your property. NYC’s street speed limit is changing! The new speed limits will be 20 mph (which was 25mph since 2014) on individual streets and 10 mph on select streets undergoing safety-related redesigns. Lowering the speed limit will encourage safer streets and allow New Yorkers to arrive at their destination (whether via bike, car, or walking) with more peace of mind. Do you think this speed limit will be enforced?
