Voices Against Violence: Empowering Action Team Europe, in partnership with Tadwein تدوين for Gender Studies, hosted an event on December 9th as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women and Girls. Titled "From Awareness to Action: Understanding and Combating Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG)," this event shed light on technology-facilitated violence (TFV) and acid attacks, crucial issues affecting women and girls. The event brought together NGOs, feminist organisations, academia, Egyptian Government representatives, and members of the Egyptian Parliament to address the impact of TFV, which includes cyberbullying, online harassment, and social media stalking. Technology-facilitated violence inflicts emotional trauma, social stigma, and physical harm on victims, including femicide. To combat this, we must: - Speak Up: Report online abuse and support victims. - Educate & Empower: Provide women and girls with tools to stay safe online. - Hold Perpetrators Accountable: Advocate for legal action and stringent regulations. - Report to Authorities: Contact the Cyber Crime Unit in Egypt at Hotline Number 108. Let's unite to end violence against women and girls. Embassy of the Netherlands in Egypt #16DaysOfActivism #No_excuse #TogetherAgainstCyberViolence #EndViolenceAgainstWomenandGirls

❓Can one case lead to changing of the systematic approach? ✅Apparently it can - as it happened due to disturbing case of sexual violence, after which integrated support for victims of gender-based violence was created. ✅This is how the holistic and one-stop approach present in the Seoul Sunflower Center located in Soth Korea was formed and expanded to more such centers and institutions to support the process, that were visited by our UNDP MK team. ✅It appears that in an era in which technology is double-edged sword, only integrated support and can help the victims. ❗However, the inspiration can only be relevant if the ideas lead us forward, as it is explained in our latest blogpost. Read about it on the link bellow 👇 https://lnkd.in/gGBedXmf The visit was organized with the support of the UNDP Seoul Policy Centre and the Korean National Police Agency within the project "Combating sexual and gender-based violence in the digital sphere". This UNDP project is implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea. #digitalsexcrime #safeoninternet #SDG5

📢 International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict 📢 Today, June 19th, we observe the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. This day serves as an important opportunity to highlight the grim reality faced by thousands of people during armed conflicts worldwide. In Ukraine, nearly 300 victims of sexual violence in conflict have been officially registered. This number is only a fraction of the true scale, as many victims are afraid to seek help due to fear of persecution or social stigma. Sexual violence in conflict is used as a weapon, destroying lives and communities and leaving indelible scars. Women, men, and children fall victim to this brutality, which causes irreparable physical and psychological harm. We must unite in the fight for justice and support for those who have experienced sexual violence in conflict. We can contribute to this cause by spreading information, supporting victims, and ensuring these crimes do not go unpunished. 💔 Today, we remember the victims and stand with the survivors. 🙏 We call for peace, justice, and the protection of human rights for all. 💬 Share this post to raise awareness and support our common cause. Together, we can create a world free from violence and suffering. #EndSexualViolence #StandWithSurvivors #HIASUkraine #HIAS #InternationalDayForEliminationOfSexualViolenceInConflict #StandWithUkraine

On June 19, #Justice4Yemen Pact highlights the urgent issue of increasing systematic sexual violence against women in Yemen on #InternationalDayfortheEliminationofSexualViolenceinConflict. The statement details two main forms of violence: direct assaults by warring parties and the breakdown of societal structures exacerbating #genderinequalities. Warring parties use #sexualviolence to terrorize and control, while societal collapse makes women more vulnerable and stigmatizes victims. The statement highly recommends the immediate cessation of violations, adherence to international agreements, support for women-led organizations, protection of female prisoners, and prioritizing health and protection for women and marginalized groups. It calls for global action, accountability, and comprehensive strategies to address and prevent sexual violence in conflict. WILPF UK is a member of Gender Action for Peace and Security (GAPS). Earlier this month, GAPS released a Statement in response to the UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict’s report on visit to Israel and the occupied West Bank. "The distressing findings indicate the key recommendation from Ms. Patten: “Continue to encourage the Government of Israeli to grant, without further delay, access to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel, to carry-out fully-fledged investigations into all alleged violations that would deepen the preliminary findings contained in the present report.” Such an investigation also plays a necessary role in the public debate, where mis- and dis-information around sexual violence has further inflamed rhetoric with material consequences, including in the rise of Islamophobic and anti-Semitic hate crime and the shaping of policy responses from other governments." https://lnkd.in/edHci2g3 #crsv #conflictrelatedsexualviolence #violence #peace #freedom #unitednations #wilpf Women's International League for Peace and Freedom - WILPF

This International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, we are shining a light on the need to prevent, mitigate and respond to sexual and gender-based violence in fragile settings across the globe. Our Senior Technical Advisor for Gender-based Violence shares, "We must prioritize the needs of women and girls in conflict settings and put an end to violence. Not only does the risk of human trafficking increase alongside rape, sex-selective genocide, and child, early and forced marriages, but intimate partner violence is worsened by armed conflict and other humanitarian crises." Women and children in South Africa are disproportionately affected by human trafficking. Children are especially vulnerable, often trafficked for exploitation, labour, and s*xual abuse. South Africa's strategic location and socioeconomic challenges make it a key source, transit, and destination country for trafficking victims. This harrowing reality calls for immediate action to raise awareness, enforce stricter laws, and provide resources for victims. Anon.
