Does NGOs fund does really impact to Africa? I do believe most of fund given to NGOs doesn't provide really impact. I can rate our of 100 only 20 has impact. Most of NGOs are good on wrote papers and reports that shown impacts that doesn't exist. NGOs may obtain 1M today, use it on non productive project and request another next year. I can imagine if same funds NGOs obtain was allocated to establish small commercial manufacturing companies, the Africa economy would have been much batter. Trust me 1M allocated on one NGOs would have establish the company that will direct employ 20+ people and indirect help many other business. The company won't just depends on donor to survival like what NGOs does.

Gerald Tarimo There’s a lot of debate about the impact of NGO funding in Africa. While NGOs undeniably play a critical role, I believe their strategy often falls short. NGOs have the unique advantage of not being driven by profits—they can focus on testing bold, systemic solutions to tough challenges, such as transforming food systems. With the goodwill they have, they can mobilize efforts and resources toward meaningful causes. However, real change takes time—especially when working with smallholder farmers or addressing systemic issues. A 1–3 year project isn’t enough to build strong human capital or transform systems. Most NGOs are underfunded, rely on short-term funding, or focus on “quick wins” that look good on paper but don’t last. This approach often leads to white elephants and broken hopes for beneficiaries who need deeper, more sustained support. NGOs still have important work to do in Africa, but they must transform. Today, many have become industries, more focused on survival than creating real change. We need NGOs that commit to deep and long-term interventions—those that can bring about real, lasting transformation.

Many organizations find it difficult to stand out and secure necessary resources. Many NGOs do not have diversified income streams, relying solely on grants. This lack of sustainability can lead to operational challenges and program cutbacks. Crafting compelling grant proposals is essential for securing funding. Unfortunately, many NGOs lack the skills needed to effectively communicate their impact and needs. Understanding the funding landscape is crucial for NGOs aiming to sustain their operations and maximize their impact. By addressing these challenges head-on, we can work towards creating a more supportive environment for NGOs in Nigeria. For the second year, Kenya is leading in fundraising, with a share of 31%, which translates to $437 million. This is followed by Egypt with 27%, equivalent to $373 million, Nigeria with 15%, equivalent to $218 million, and South Africa with 9%, equivalent to $124 million.
