🛑The traditional "take, make, waste" model is old news. ⏱️ It's time to rethink water management and embrace the Circular Water Economy (CWE). This approach treats water as a valuable resource, using strategies like rainwater harvesting and nutrient recovery from wastewater. Plus, it aligns with big goals like the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6) and the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive. 🌱💧 ➡️ Why Embrace a Circular Water Economy? 💰Economic Benefits: Shifting to circular principles globally could unlock $4.5 trillion in value. 👷♂️Job Creation: In the EU, adopting circular practices could create 2.5 million additional jobs by 2030. 🌍Environmental Impact: Efficient use of key materials could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40%. 🌊The Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s ReSOLVE framework offers practical steps for businesses to integrate water circularity: ✳️Regenerate: Enhance processes to benefit the environment and capture valuable by-products. ✳️Share: Centralise water infrastructure and share knowledge to minimise water use. ✳️Optimise: Identify inefficiencies and adopt new technologies for smarter water use. ✳️Loop: Extend the life of products with embodied carbon to maximise economic value. ✳️Virtualise: Use digital processes to reduce the water footprint. ✳️Exchange: Explore alternative materials and use water as a service. While there are challenges like complex permits, changing attitudes, and upfront costs, businesses can overcome them by asking the right questions and leveraging the ReSOLVE framework. Through global collaboration with organisations like the WorldGBC, we can take practical steps toward a truly circular water economy. ➡️Let's transform how we manage water and build a smarter, more sustainable future. 📜 https://lnkd.in/eQzaUPwc #CircularEconomy #WaterManagement #Sustainability #Innovation #WorldWaterWeek #GinjoConstruction #WeAreGinjo #SustainableBusiness #SustainableDevelopment #EllenMacarthurFoundation #WorldGBC

Hello Sustainability Enthusiasts, I'm excited to delve into another critical segment of the sustainability field: water footprint assessment. This document provides an insightful overview of an organization's water footprint and how it's calculated. Much like the GHG Protocol serves as the bible for carbon footprint assessment, "The Water Footprint Assessment Manual: Setting the Global Standard" by Hoekstra, Chapagain, Aldaya, and Mekonnen (2011) is the authoritative guide for water footprint assessment. This manual is essential reading for anyone interested in understanding and managing their impact on global water resources. You can explore it further https://lnkd.in/gQANErMq Understanding our impact on water resources is crucial for sustainable practices. Let's explore together! #Sustainability #WaterFootprint #EnvironmentalImpact #SustainableBusiness

ICYMI last week the Circular Economy Bill was passed 🎉 Dr Ania Escudero of Glasgow Caledonian University, HNC Research Leader Fellow leading the #HydroNationChair's mission on Embracing the Circular Economy, has reflected on this milestone in Scottish #policy. "We are delighted that Scotland’s Circular Economy bill has passed without opposition. This Bill includes measures to help Scotland develop a circular economy (CE), by increasing reuse and recycling. It includes publishing a CE strategy every 5 years, setting statutory circular economy targets, reducing waste, increasing penalties for littering from vehicles, making sure both householders and businesses get rid of waste in the right way and improving waste monitoring. This is a great step forwards towards a transition to a more circular economy and towards Scotland’s commitments on tackling climate change. The Hydro Nation Chair Research & Innovation Programme exists to support the water sector in Scotland in its push to Net Zero and beyond. Research and Innovation relating to the Circular Economy is at the heart of this. We strongly support the strengthening of policy and the increase in ambition in relation to the Circular Economy. However, recognition in the bill that water is a resource, which itself must be managed to prevent shortages and that the wastewater system has great potential for resource capture, treatment and reuse would have been beneficial in our push to Net Zero". Over 78,000 MT of dry waste found a second chance with us last year, and we achieved over seven Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) along the way. 🌏 Building a circular system for waste management helped clean our cities and protect our oceans. But that's not all. Here's how our impact aligns with the planet: ▪️ SDG 8: Providing secure jobs and safe workplaces for our Safai Saathis. ▪️ SDG 9: Formalizing the recycling industry and enabling inclusivity. ▪️ SDG 12: Encouraging households to reduce their waste through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse. ▪️ SDG 13: Mitigating climate change by conserving resources. ▪️ SDG 17: Establishing partnerships for collective action toward sustainability. 🌱 This is not just our story. It is the story of shared responsibility and collective efforts by our team and all our planet-forward clients who joined us along the way. We are transforming waste into a force for good. Here are 3 ways to promote a Green Economy as an Individual First, promoting a green economy as an individual involves making conscious choices in daily life to minimize environmental impact and supporting initiatives that prioritize sustainability. 1. Adopt Sustainable Practices: Incorporate eco-friendly habits into your lifestyle. This can include reducing energy consumption by turning off lights and appliances when not in use, conserving water, reducing waste by recycling and composting, and supporting local and sustainable food producers by buying organic or locally grown products. 2. Advocate for Change: Use your voice and influence to advocate for policies and practices that support a green economy. This can involve attending events that have to do with a sustainable environment, green economy, recycling, and positive impact on the environment in general. You can also host one to educate people about the importance of practicing environmental sustainability. 3. Make Informed Consumer Choices: Be mindful of the products and services you purchase and their environmental impact. Choose products with eco-friendly features. Also, consider investing in renewable energy sources like solar panels for your home or supporting renewable energy initiatives in your community. By taking these actions, individuals can play a significant role in promoting a green economy and contributing to a more sustainable future for generations to come.
