Last week I embarked on my journey as a professor at MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® in Innsbruck, teaching AI-Driven Entrepreneurship. All the students are there because they feel that "AI is the future", and the most interesting part is that they are coming from very different backgrounds and Bachelor Studies - Mechatronics, Business, Tourism, Engineering and more. As we were discussing the topic of SWOT analysis of a business, I was struck by a discussion about Climate Change. Climate Change was put in the Threats quadrant for a business we were discussing, but some of the students argued that it can also be seen as an Opportunity. ...and from a logical perspective, I couldn't really go against this statement. But looking outside the window of the classroom and seeing the beautiful Alpine landscape... I really felt a punch in the stomach thinking about climate change as an opportunity. It made me wonder: should we continue teaching these "standard" methods of analyzing business opportunities, or should we pivot completely? Yes, there are tools like the Sustainable Business Model Canvas and the Regenerative Business Model Canvas. Yet, the KPIs for entrepreneurial success are often still centered on revenue, valuation, and IPOs. And can AI help changing this perspective? Or again are we just working with AI for cost-saving, short term ROI etc?
