❗Only by knowing the global context of patients and their support networks can you hope to get the maximum outcomes for all people living with #SLE. ✅ Access to care, transportation 🚗 , employment, health literacy, all have an impact in health outcomes and well beyond. Additionally, a lot of excellent initiatives do not reach socially and/or economically less advantaged populations, for instance. 👫 HCPs working in the frontlines of caring for patients are perfectly positioned to help establish these connections. Wide implications for people living with #SLE , their support networks and HCPs all around. Much to be done still. Patient's associations are showing us the way. Healthcare systems and social/government support structures need to follow, reframing around this topic.
🚨 Socio-economic factors can significantly affect the health outcomes of economically and/or socially less advantaged populations. #ICYMI: Only 1 in 4 patients were screened for adverse social determinants of health (#SDOH) like food insecurity and housing instability at Federally Qualified Health Centers (#FQHC), according to a recent study published in JAMA Internal Medicine. Of these individuals, 27.6% reported financial strain, reinforcing the need for government health agencies to improve screening.
