It’s disheartening to see the rise of academic dishonesty, where students are outsourcing their assignments, and some educators are obtaining unverified credentials. The poor results of the Central Superior Services examinations and those conducted by provincial public service commissions in recent years give a good idea of the deplorable state of education in Pakistan. One reason for this state of affairs might be the existence of different curriculums in schools. In prestigious elite English-medium schools, curriculums prepared by well-known international universities are followed and their exams are also conducted by international universities. Urdu-medium and so-called English-medium schools follow curriculums prescribed by indigenous education departments.

Having been to both government and boarding schools, I've seen the hurdles many students face, especially in learning English. Government schools often operate with limited resources, and I recall English classes where even basic grammar was a challenge. Competing with peers from urban areas with access to superior education and resources was no small feat. When I moved to Kathmandu for college, I felt the weight of my language skills—or lack thereof. I was often hesitant to speak up, fearing judgment. I chose to remain silent rather than asking questions with the fear of mispronouncing words. Many students from rural areas are bullied for their language skills, and this insecurity extends into the job market. Education in Nepal is a tale of two worlds: government schools, where education is affordable but often lacking in quality, and private boarding schools, accessible only to the wealthy, offering advanced coaching and resources. Practical skills are rarely emphasized, leaving many students ill-prepared for real-world challenges. But we can see the change coming, thanks to visionary leaders like Balen Shah. As a mayor, Balen Shah is transforming public schools across Kathmandu. His efforts to modernize infrastructure, integrate technology, and provide comprehensive teacher training are game-changers. I recently watched a video of Balen Shah discussing his experiences, and it brought back memories of my own school days. His commitment to improving public education is not just commendable; it’s inspiring. Scholarships from private schools are also making a significant difference, offering more students the chance to excel. Here’s a clip from the video. It’s a powerful reminder that with the right support, every student has the potential to succeed. Let's support and celebrate the revolution to giving every child in Nepal a fair shot at success. Together, we can break down barriers and build a brighter future. #EducationReform #YouthEmpowerment #LanguageSkills #PublicSchools #BalenShah #Nepal #Inspiration #CommunityChange #financialLiteracy https://lnkd.in/gGTgJmBV

Alhamdulillah! I am delighted to share the publication of our new article, co-authored by Mohammod Moninoor Roshid and Phan Le Ha, titled "Medium of Education and the Politics of Distraction in School Education in Bangladesh." This article is featured in the Routledge journal Current Issues in Language Planning (Q1, Impact Factor 2.4). Our study examines the medium of education through the lens of the politics of distraction, a strategy that shifts public attention from critical issues to less significant ones. The article suggests that the government promotes various mediums of education to serve diverse political interests, often at the expense of providing inclusive and equitable quality education for all. It also highlights the various factors that distract parents from choosing the most suitable medium of education for their children. I am deeply grateful to Senior Professor Phan Le Ha for inviting me to contribute to this significant work. My thanks also extend to the editors, publisher, and anonymous reviewers for their support. For those interested in reading the article, please follow this link: https://lnkd.in/gnxwaaRX.

Our education system in Bangladesh is facing significant challenges that require immediate attention. However, we couldn't see any visible initiatives by the incumbent government to address the issues in this sector. Identifying and tackling key areas for reformation is essential to establish a more equitable, modern, and efficient education system. #EducationReform #BangladeshEducation #QualityEducation #Bangladesh2.0

Australia’s teaching workforce is expected to be culturally responsive. Resources and a tool for evaluating cultural responsiveness are managed nationally by AITSL and linked to Australian teacher professional standards. This may be the case, but where does the accountability to engage with these resources actually lie? I propose that teacher accountability for learning and using cultural responsiveness sits with the states, and that cultural responsiveness resources should be differentiated to local needs highlighting localised accountability. Read our latest publication to find out about a locally developed tool for use in the Northern Territory where the percentage of Aboriginal students per population is 40%, but the number of Aboriginal teachers (fully qualified and culturally knowledgeable) is low.
