Despite sequential declines in imports following the Lunar New Year, overall port figures remain resilient compared to last year. In March, the Port of Los Angeles led West Coast ports with a notable annual growth rate, though experiencing a slight monthly decline. Loaded import twenty-foot equivalent units showed a yearly increase, while loaded export TEUs soared remarkably. On the other hand, the Port of Long Beach observed modest import growth but faced export challenges. Meanwhile, the Port of Savannah on the East Coast continued its growth trend, handling significantly more TEUs than the previous year, with impressive import and export figures. Looking ahead, April and May are expected to sustain strong import numbers, setting a positive tone for the rest of the year. #Imports #Exports #PortofLosAngeles #PortofLongBeach #PortofSavannah #TEUS https://lnkd.in/eE2NdPSz

Interesting to learn that export from Asia to Europe jumped 7.8% when EU economy grew by only 06% in 2023. Also interesting to note that China's export volume of 12.5 millions were 6 times SE Asia volume of 2.24 millions Teu - even though many have reported how factories have moved out from China to SE Asia. Even more interesting that import to China dropped by 6.6% to 3.2 millions Teu - while SE Asia import increased to 1.9 millions TEU. The disparity of volume comparison between export and import volume between China and SE Asia is perhaps an indication of the strength of manufacturing sector between the 2 regions. What is your opinion? #worldtrade #containershipping #chinaeconomy #southeastasia #cargo #freightforwarding

US container import volume in February dropped by 6% compared to January. Despite the month over month decrease, February had a 23.3% year over year increase from 2023. This large increase is due in part to Chinese Lunar New Year which began on February 10th this year compared to January 22nd last year. The holiday includes 8 days off of work, which could lead to decreases in import volumes in March and April. Article by - Joe Antoshak - FreightWaves #containershipping #import #chineselunarnewyear

https://lnkd.in/eFbGQ-HT Descartes Datamyne's Global Shipping Report - March Update - is now available! "In March 2024, U.S. container import volumes increased 0.4% from February, but jumped 15.7% when compared to the same month last year, indicating exceptional growth when considering the impact of the Chinese Lunar New Year on the second half of March. Compared to February 2024, imports from China continued to decline because of the Chinese Lunar New Year, reflected by a significant volume loss at the Port of Los Angeles for the second consecutive month. Port transit delays continue to improve as the drought in Panama and Middle East conflict have yet to impact East and Gulf Coast ports. April’s update of logistics metrics monitored by Descartes Systems Group show that the first quarter of 2024 has been a strong start for U.S. container imports; however, concerns around global supply chain performance are still expected throughout the year because of ongoing conditions at the Panama and Suez Canals, upcoming labor negotiations at U.S. South Atlantic and Gulf Coast ports, Middle East conflict, and the impact of the Baltimore Bridge collapse which remains to be fully reflected in U.S. container import volume data." #import #export #tradedata #billsoflading #container #logistics #logisticstech
