The UK job market is brutal right now. I know a lot of people who are struggling to find work. Here are a few quick tips from an employer. I hope they help. 👍 1 - ALWAYS DM THE HIRER Sure, if everyone did this, it would get really annoying. But most people don’t bother. DMing the hirer won’t guarantee you an interview. But it shows you care more than all the people who didn’t bother. 2 - CREATE AN AWESOME LINKEDIN PROFILE If I’m reviewing 100+ applications, you can be sure I’m looking for shortcuts. And, yeah, some of those shortcuts are superficial. Do you have a good headshot? Is your bio clear and well-written? Is it easy for me to understand what you’ve done and what you’re good at? In the remote hiring era, putting time and effort into your profile is like wearing a shirt for an interview. It shows you care. Also, if your only LinkedIn activity is arguing with people and posting about how rubbish LinkedIn is, you’re going to look like someone who’s hard to work with. 3 - TELL ME ABOUT ME When Hugh interviewed at Winbox, he watched all the videos on our website and then quoted our methodology back to me in the interview, using the exact words I’d used in the videos. I was blown away. Unsurprisingly, he got the job. Most applicants talk about themselves. This is understandable. But you also need to talk about the company you’re applying for. Learn about their philosophy, their culture, their case studies and, most importantly, tell them why you want to work there. Skills and experience are good. But the most important things are: 1 - Culture fit: will you get along with the team? 2 - Passion: are you excited about working here? These two things trump everything else. Hopefully these tips help. If you’ve got any others to share, stick them in the comments where someone might see them. Good luck. 👍

Do NOT apply through Linkedin. Find an email or someone. Show you care and don't want to be grouped with the people who just click and submit.

Great post, George. I think after a while if someone looking feels they are doing all of the following and nothing is sticking, it's time to change something up like redo their CV, try contacting all networks and so forth. I've had to do it too and the job market is incredibly tough, and the rates/salaries are half they were during the pandemic

These tips are spot on George! In such a tough job market, standing out is crucial, and reaching out directly to the hirer can really set you apart. A polished LinkedIn profile is like your virtual handshake; it shows you mean business. 💪
