Clients have increasingly been asking me about video editing in addition to the audio production work I do as The Podcast Editor. Last week, I took an intensive three-day Adobe Premiere Pro training through Manhattan Edit Workshop with Kiri Roberts. As much as I'd like to focus on audio-first content creation, and believe that a proper "podcast" refers to on-demand audio, there is no denying the increased demand for video to accompany a podcast. So somewhat reluctantly, I’m now retraining and incorporating video into my skillset and workflow. I see this as another step on my Adobe software journey…first working in PageMaker, then InDesign, and of course Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and of course making the jump from ProTools to Audition about four years ago. I’ve enjoyed thinking about why a cut was made, and whether it makes sense for a story, plus I’ve always been fascinated by the sound design part of production. Here's hoping that by learning this software I’m off to another auspicious career leap. #podcast #videopodcast #audiovisual #production #contentcreation #socialmedia
Well, it looks like I'm going to be part of a team for the 48 Hour Film Project happening this weekend; so much for resting and digesting this information as I'll get the chance to test my skills at editing much sooner than expected. Fingers crossed I can remember those new keyboard commands!
Adobe makes good products, but users become stuck in never-ending subscription renewal, and Adobe does little to ensure that older projects will open in new product versions. Red Flag. Here's a clip of a Premiere user trying out Final Cut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiGDnOElkdM
Similar drift has happened here at East Main Media ~ several "audio only" podcast clients have requested video, which we've also provided for over a decade. Great to pursue both mediums!
I have those same KRKs. Premiere will most certainly be a great addition to your skillset. Have you experimented with the “podcast” preset in the essential sound panel?

8moAlso there's a great read in the NYT about this phenomenon. Seems like the trend towards video is spurred by a few factors; but mainly YouTube's algorithm being the "discovery" tool that podcast players can't seem to engineer. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/26/arts/podcasts-video-youtube-audio.html
