Just Remember What do you remember about your journey through life? your formative years, high school, when you graduated, when you got your first job, started your first business, your first major vacation and so on. A lot of times we focus on what we are going through rather than on what we are going to. We tend to focus on the negative rather than the positive or the possibilities. There is a lot of great things happening within us, around us, in our relationships, in our workplace and in our world that needs celebrating. I was reflecting on how far I have come the other day and went through memory lane where I recollected the good, the bad and the ugly experiences of life. Life is a fascinating journey filled with different seasons. Some seasons are great while other season are not so great. What I know is that every season has a purpose in our lives when we look at things within the context of the bigger picture or the grand scheme of things. I don’t know what season you are in right now, but what I can say is to remember not to waste the season you are in. During seasons of disruption, we forget to focus on where we are going and rather focus on what we are going through. Too much focus on what we are going through distorts our vision, taints our focus, and sucks our energy. I suggest you spend this week remembering how far you have come, the amazing journey ahead, the sights and sounds as you continue the journey called life. Have an amazing week and don’t forget to encourage the people you meet to keep on moving forward. See you on my next podcast. #justremenber #focusyourjourney #buildyourfuture #makeitcount

Podcast Review! 😋 🎧 This week, my lovely friend and colleague Paloma recommended to the Accelio team Simon Sinek's podcast episode guest-starring Brené Brown and Adam Grant. As a big fan of all three authors, I loved hearing them talk about some of my favorite topics: anthropology, business and life strategy, and emotional intelligence. The key theme throughout the chat was also the title of the episode, “Thinking About Thinking,” which involved understanding how metacognition can empower individuals to reflect and improve. 🌟 What isn't mentioned in the podcast is the fierce rivalry between Grant and Sinek. Despite writing in the same space, they choose to collaborate rather than compete, showcasing the power of an abundant approach. 🤝 Key takeaways: 1. 🧠 There’s a difference between situational awareness and self-awareness. Often, situational awareness comes first. As Brené calls out, "Values aren’t situational, but the expression of them is." 2. 💡 Memorising information is one thing, but being deeply thoughtful with memory is a superpower (e.g., remembering facts vs. remembering names). 3. 🤲 The ability to self-criticise allows leaders to be more approachable and trustworthy. One study highlighted that when leaders self-critique out loud, it boosts psychological safety for their teams. If you’d like to listen to it, you can find part one here: https://lnkd.in/gZTCua7X and part two which was released yesterday: https://lnkd.in/gjcXWc9c Thanks so much, Paloma, for the recommendation! 🌟 #learning #podcasts #business #psychology #adamgrant #brenebrown #simonsinek

Listen to Simon Sinek on "Finding Mastery" with Michael Gervais! Check out the podcast here: https://lnkd.in/gqbdzJ7G I’ll admit, I wasn’t always a Simon Sinek fan. My first encounter with his work was a talk where he contrasted Apple with other device makers, claiming that the difference was Apple had a clear “Why.” It struck me as cute and clever, but not particularly life-changing or useful for guiding a business. At a former company, our leader gave each manager a copy of "Start With Why" and organized a meeting to discuss it. It seemed to me at the time that we were creating meaningless TV shows just to earn our salaries and make money for the owners. I saw no deeper “Why” other than keeping the company afloat for our own benefit. This lack of purpose seemed glaringly obvious in that awkward meeting. Consequently, I dismissed "Start With Why" and Simon Sinek, never even considering his subsequent books. However, I frequently listen to the "Finding Mastery" podcast with Michael Gervais, the longtime performance psychologist of the Seattle Seahawks. His conversations with elite thinkers and athletes are a significant source of inspiration for me. When Simon Sinek appeared on the "Finding Mastery," the interaction between him and Michael was extraordinary. Although I haven't read Sinek’s most recent book, "The Infinite Game," the framework he discussed resonated with me. Perhaps it was because of the sports parallels, a world I was deeply involved in during my youth and later as a coach. The concept of a "Just Cause" as an inspiring future clarified the idea of the “Why” as the core beliefs from which the "Just Cause" is born. Now, I see how I can use both the concepts of “Why” and “Just Cause” in my life, relationships, and business ventures. I highly recommend this podcast episode. I haven’t read "The Infinite Game" yet, but it’s definitely on my list.
