Joint Swinburne/CSIRO Professor in Sustainable Mineral Processing

Yesterday I was honoured to recieve the Vice Chancellor's Research Excellence Award. This is a great honour. Thank you Vice Chancellor Professor Pascale Quester. It is particularly special for me because I am graduate from Swinburne, as well as being a Professor at Swinburne for nearly two decades. I remember arriving at the Glenferrie campus as a clueless young man looking to learn, so the loud cheers from all my friends and colleagues at the ceremony was most touching. I am particularly grateful for the Dean, Professor Emad Gad, for nominating me and Professor Dong Ruan and for being such a supportive boss! I am also full of gratitude for my callaborators at Swinburne, M. Akbar Rhamdhani, Shabnam Sabah, Bintang Ayu Nuraeni, Michelle Dunn, Alan Duffy, Jamal Naser, Dr Morshed Alam, Shanti Krishnan, Reiza Mukhlis and Ben McAllister for their fantastic support and friendship during the time we have worked together over many years. I am also want to acknowledge my long term industrial collaborators and supportors Mark Pownceby, Bapin Rout, Frank Schrama, Aart Overbosch, Andrea Fontana, Alister King, Rod Snashall, Sara Hornby, Keith Vining, CSIRO, InfraBuild, BlueScope, Tata Steel Nederland, Umicore, HILT CRC and the Steel Research Hub . My past and current PhD students (too many to list!!!) thank you for making me look clever and being such an inspiration to work with.

We're celebrating our values in action with the 2024 Vice-Chancellor's awards 👏🎉 Our Vice Chancellor and President Professor Pascale Quester and the Swinburne community have come together to recognise and celebrate the individuals and teams who brought our values to life in 2024 spanning across teaching, research and professional areas.
