I recently received a comment asking if I’m a real ‘doctor’. I think it’s a brilliant question. In today’s world, where social media dominates, we need to be mindful about where we get our information and be cautious of misinformation. So, to clarify, yes, I am indeed a doctor - and I’ve been a Chartered Psychologist with over 10 years. 😊 It’s a reminder to always check the credentials behind the advice we follow. If you’re looking for evidence-based insights, here are some psychologists who consistently share valuable advice: - Erin Shrimpton - Dr Hayley Lewis - Dr Sam Akbar - Dr. Richard MacKinnon
I play soccer regularly and on the field a person dislocated their shoulder. I got called over because “… isn’t Scott a doctor?” I had to deliver the news of my limitations as a doctor… but, I was able to have a short philosophical discussion about whether pain was real or just a social construct :)
Do people claim to be a Dr ... hadn't realised. I do know that my Chiropractor, who is a Dr, said that I'm a real doctor, with my academic work. Made me smile
Love this
Well said Dr Gemma! How to overcome criticism in a positive and insightful way! And recognizing the work of other colleagues! 👏👏👏💖
Thank you, Gemma. It's a good question and good on you for answering. And thanks for recongising my work!

19hI was delivering training for a group of medical doctors recently and we had a whole conversation about what a 'real doctor' is. Funnily enough, some of them thought a PhD/doctorate meant one was a real doctor, whereas some thought a medical degree meant a real doctor. All I know is that you, me, and all the other doctorates we know worked bloody hard to attain our level of knowledge and understanding in the field of psychology. That being said, I'm keeping schtum the next time on an aeroplane the call comes over the tannoy - "is there a doctor on board?" 😉
