This is a helpful post on impact measurement from my pals at Lime Green Consulting. Being clear on the difference your charity is making is crucial, but some methods of measurement can be tedious, time-consuming and frankly, disruptive. Ally Rea offers six solid options for recording impact without the ick of asking colleagues to add to their already busy workload: https://lnkd.in/e-KnCACG

Demonstrating the difference you make can feel like a huge ask, particularly in smaller organisations without dedicated impact measurement roles. It's common to feel caught between funder expectations, the realities of capacity and service delivery, and the need to avoid being intrusive and exploitative with the people you support. Our new blog, written by the brilliant Ally Rea, covers six tips and techniques for measuring impact sensitively, drawing on real-life examples from charities we've worked with and approaches Ally has seen in public. Best of all, they are all actionable for smaller organisations, even if you have limited time and budget. https://lnkd.in/eJ4mckbv

Are you measuring your charities impact? If measuring impact is a priority for your organisation, have you set aside a budget line to make it happen? Specifically, have you considered engaging independent researchers to help you assess your outcomes? At E Tū Tāngata we’ve partnered with the University of Canterbury and the John Templeton Foundation to ensure our impact is measured rigorously and independently. We also recognise the value of tools like Bill English’s ImpactLab which uses the best data and evidence to estimate social value in dollar terms—a metric that is measurable, consistent, and comparable. Understanding whether what you’re doing is truly making a difference is foundational to your mission. It’s not just about counting outputs—what you do—but also measuring outcomes—the change you create. How can you know if you’re making an impact without intentionally assessing it? Yes, it requires resources, but investing in independent research is a powerful way to gain clarity. It can be vulnerable—you may discover areas where you’re not hitting the mark. But you might also validate the incredible difference your work is making and uncover ways to refine it further. While tools like Impact Lab can help communicate measurable value to supporters and funders, the greatest benefit is knowing—really knowing—that your work is making a difference. It’s about serving our communities with confidence and integrity, ensuring our efforts are grounded in evidence. For me, I have a deep desire to know that what I’m doing works—not just because I believe it, but because the data and research back it up. What about you? Have you prioritised measuring your organisation’s impact? Would you consider partnering with researchers or tools like Impact Lab to take it further?

There are few things I love more than evidence that investing in capacity building pays off. We all know it. We all believe it. And yet it's so hard to find proof of it sometimes and to convince funders that it's worth investing in. At GlobalGiving, we know that equipping our nonprofit partners with the vital skills they need to engage with donors and raise funds effectively is super important. Our partners tell us this in all kinds of ways. This is why I am a strong supporter of our partnership with @Lightful on the BRIDGE program. I loved this partnership when I supported experimentation at Gates and I love it even more now that I can see the results up close and personal. Lightful just released an amazing report on their impact and if you need a funder to believe in the power of investing in nonprofit learning, just show them this! The outcomes are truly remarkable: -- 96% of nonprofits report that lessons from the BRIDGE program have helped them positively impact their communities. --84% of participants utilize the skills from the BRIDGE program at least weekly. --79% increase in funds raised compared to the 12 months before the program. Thanks Vinay Nair and Jonathan Waddingham for sharing this powerful report and for you and the whole team at Lightful's partnership. I encourage everyone to take a look and view the results from this first longitudinal impact study and I'm tagging Beth Kanter for the pivotal role she had in the BRIDGE program! #nonprofits #capacitybuilging #charity #philanthropy #fundraising #technology #tech4good
We've had amazing feedback on our Lightful #BuildingResilience Impact Report - many thanks to everyone already! I've written a blog to share a bit more about why we pulled this report together, at this time, particularly with our longitudinal impact study. We found that 95% of nonprofits feel that the lessons learned from the BRIDGE programme have had a long-lasting positive effect on their organisation. Nonprofits stand at the forefront of building a better future for people and the planet, so please do have a read and let us know what you think. Thanks! #nonprofits #charity #digital #ai #philanthropy https://lnkd.in/eUZ6mh4d

The Dwelling Challenge - Contribution Series: Define Your Contribution to the World Date and time: Tuesday 12 November 2024, 7.30-9.30pm Online via Zoom Investment: SGD68 (1-for-1 special: Bring a guest who has never attended Dwelling before for free to attend the workshop with you) Register: https://lnkd.in/gqumge-N All of us, regardless of our circumstances in life, have a need to #contribute. We often seek to help others and make a difference in the world. This can be in the form of improving the lives of the customers we serve at work, volunteering in #communities that we care about, giving to charity, or championing others through speaking, writing, and art. Contribution goes beyond the self. When we contribute, we connect to the world. Our contributions tell us how much we have grown, what we are truly capable of, and give us a sense of identity and our place in this world. Our contributions give our lives meaning, without which we might feel like a cog in the machine, going through the motions of our daily lives, and not deriving a sense of #fulfillment from the things we do. At the end of our lives, looking back at our #contributions gives us a sense of completion, knowing we played a part in leaving the world in a better place. Have you ever dreamt of changing the world, or asked yourself how you would like to contribute or make a difference to #society? Most people have a general sense of wanting to #give of themselves, but without defining their contribution, they end up clueless as to where and how to get involved. Some of us may also think of ourselves as having nothing to contribute, or not good enough to make a significant #impact, and so we can only dream of making a difference someday, when we become more accomplished, more attractive, more influential, or more powerful. What if none of this is true, or necessary, to start making a difference? In this session, discover how ordinary people like you and I can make an extraordinary difference in the world. Find out what you really care about and why, and the motivations that would keep you championing what you truly stand for. Get into action that inspires you and those you serve, create a #community with those who resonate with your #cause, and live your life being a contribution to the planet we live in. What you will gain through this 2-hour online workshop: ~ Understand the motivations behind why you want to contribute to others ~ Go beyond “make a difference” and define what your contribution really is ~ Discover what you truly resonate with about your contribution that compels you to act ~ Define how your actions leave a lasting impact in the world For enquiries, WhatsApp us at 86938159 or email [email protected] #dwelling #dwellinginitiatives #thedwellingchallenge #coaching #lifecoach #personaldevelopment #contribution #giving #changetheworld #makeadifference

Raising investment into our community businesses today is hard. I’m seeing it at the coalface. We have 100s of leaders in the marketplace and 1000s of fundraisers & engagement managers working hard and needing to quickly understand how they can ensure they are making an impact & preparing for the future. Potentially these skilled workers are without the inspiration they need to maintain their efforts. I collaborate to assist these Irish & UK Higher Education Institutions, End of Life Care Services, and Healthcare & Welfare Treatment, Research & Advocacy Services. I love it! 💜💜✌️My colleagues and peers across the industry that choose to show-up to collaborate are superb. These collectives are regional, national & global centres focused on the future of our young people and communities - by funding these brands we are maintaining and transforming systems such as industry & business, healthcare & successfully living, culture, inclusion & diversity, sustainability and social justice & cohesion. Without these Community Services, what would our society look like? The answer is crap and painful. 👎🏻 The results we ultimately look to surface are how many Charitable Gift receipts have our NFP orgs recorded.💰What is the purpose value of these Gifts? 🎁 To get to cash we need context on the why and understand purpose and focus. This needs data & conversation. Data is easy. Conversation is harder. The big secret is if we don’t sort out invisible hard-to-see paperwork & admin we can’t surface meaningful insights that gives us accessibility to test our creativity skills to think about how to change the world for the better. A significant number of the 100s and 1000s people above ⬆️ are nervous of looking inexperienced and without skills in reading data, statistics, asking questions and saying I don’t know and I’m looking to be involved and learn. 💡🔌 If we don’t update these skills and people, process and technology we won’t maintain and transform our community services with the evolving challenging environment directly around us. I’m excited as the people who steward the brands I work with are innovating to continue reaching voluntary private and public funds to make a difference. Plus the impact they plan to have is beautifully meaningful! These teams are doing this with the bigger picture in front of them and feeling more confident for it. Confidence is bringing them momentum & growth, staff retention & recruitment. I’m collaborating consistently and regularly to assist this awesome professional group to connect data to communicate with our advocates & supporters effectively and ensure our People are surfacing easy to read storytelling dashboards that inspire funding value & growth. My main piece of advice from this thread… spark a conversation. Much Love Network X #thewhy #impact #communityservices #fundraising #gettingoutofourownway #makingadifference #learning #coaching #transforming
