Hiring and Retention in Dublin: What Every Employer Needs to Know. The Dublin employment market is evolving fast, and as I speak with employers, the same questions keep coming up: How do we attract great talent? How do we keep them? And how do we navigate rising costs and compliance in today’s market? Here are some of the biggest challenges I see right now — and my take on how to tackle them: Attracting Talent: 💡 Flexible work is now expected, not optional. 💡 Candidates want purpose and a connection to their work. 💡 A strong employer brand makes a huge difference. It’s not just about what you pay but how you stand out. The businesses winning in recruitment today are those that tell their story well and focus on culture and values. Retention: 💡 Employees stay where they feel valued. 💡 Career growth, recognition, and work-life balance matter more than ever. For me, the best retention strategies are about action, not words. It’s listening to your people and delivering on what they need to thrive. Navigating Compliance & Costs 💡 Changes to sick pay, gender pay gap reporting, and remote work laws are adding pressure. Staying proactive and informed is key. A good HR strategy can save you time, money, and a lot of stress. The Dublin market is competitive, no doubt. But it’s also full of opportunities for those willing to adapt. Invest in your people. Tell your story. Focus on what makes your business unique. What strategies have worked best for you in navigating Dublin’s evolving job market? #DublinJobs #HRInsights #EmployerBranding #Leadership

The UK's ongoing labor shortage, exacerbated by factors like the Great Resignation, an aging population, and Brexit, has left almost 1.7 million job vacancies, with the situation expected to worsen due to the rapid growth of technology and AI. One potential solution is for HR to focus on internal talent development rather than competing externally for talent. Experts highlight the importance of understanding individual career aspirations and personalizing development plans, as not all employees are driven by traditional career progression. Companies like Wincanton emphasize showcasing diverse career paths within the organization and using skills-based approaches for internal mobility. Technology, such as career pathing tools, can help but should avoid creating rigid pathways that limit employees' ability to explore lateral moves. HR professionals are encouraged to prioritize career conversations with employees, even under the pressure of heavy workloads, and foster a culture where managers act as enablers of growth. Additionally, strategies should be adaptable to cultural differences across regions, as internal mobility programs may be implemented differently in various markets. Post-pandemic, organizations must also ensure remote workers have equal access to career opportunities. This can be achieved by leveraging technology to keep remote employees connected to the company culture and opportunities, making sure they don’t miss out on career development due to a lack of in-person interaction. A strong, inclusive workplace culture and continuous communication are key to driving internal mobility and retaining talent.

International companies are hiring more Americans 🖇️ We generally are used to the notion of American employers #outsourcing some jobs to people in other countries, but other countries are starting to gain more interest and benefiting from hiring American workers. According to Deel, in 2023, San Francisco was in the top 5 cities that provided the most “global workers” (defined at individuals employed by a company headquartered in a different country). For comparison, there wasn’t any U.S. city in the top 5 in 2022. 🌎 Within the U.S., cities with the most global workers are: 🌁 San Francisco 🗽 New York City 🌭 Chicago 🌮 Austin 🏝️ Miami Employers must adapt to the continued growth of #remotework, such as with #companyculture and #employeebenefits. I see more opportunities for innovation here to help unite the global workforce. #startupjourney

For the last two weeks I've been running a poll on LinkedIn asking job seekers and potential candidates who are predominantly in the engineering manufacturing, technology and executive workspace what key factors they prioritise when looking for their next career move. Following a year of financial pressure to increase pay offers, 2024 looks set to require employers to offer broader benefits beyond money. With a quarter of all responses suggesting flexible work arrangements as their main priority. To help you understand how flexible working can play an important part in your candidate attraction strategy, I have outlined what is going on in the market with regard to this below. If you would like to discuss how we can help you create a compelling place to work where the candidates we find for you see you as an employer of choice, then please get in touch with me at [email protected], to arrange a no obligation consultation. In the modern workforce, flexibility reigns supreme. Offering remote work options, flexible hours, and compressed workweeks isn't just a perk—it's a necessity for attracting top talent. Here's why: Appealing to Diverse Candidates: Flexible work arrangements attract a wider pool of candidates, including those with personal or logistical constraints. This inclusivity promotes diversity and enriches the talent pool. Boosting Retention: When employees have control over their schedules, they're more committed and less likely to leave. This reduces turnover costs and fosters loyalty. Enhancing Productivity: Flexibility leads to happier, more motivated employees who manage their time effectively. This translates to higher productivity and performance levels. Leveraging Technology: Cloud-based tools facilitate seamless collaboration, enabling remote work without sacrificing communication or teamwork. By embracing flexibility, companies not only attract top talent but also foster a culture of trust and inclusivity, driving long-term success in today's dynamic business world.

KPMG found in October that 63% of UK business leaders anticipated a full return to office-based work by 2026 - what do you think? I'm on a fully-remote contract but I see both sides of the coin Ultimately, I think businesses will see top talent leave for organisations who are more progressive culturally. Causing serious problems in recruitment, succession and arguably productivity, but certainly innovatively due to lack of talent attraction #RemoteWork #FutureOfWork #HR #DigitalNomad

The numbers are in: Drum roll: I recently conducted a survey to explore what factors professionals prioritize when negotiating a job offer, and the results are in! 📊 It’s fascinating to see how priorities have evolved, highlighting a shift in what truly matters in today’s dynamic work landscape. 🌱 Opportunities for Growth: Topping the list of priorities is the desire for ample opportunities for personal and professional development. It’s clear that professionals are seeking roles that not only offer stability but also pave the way for continuous learning and career advancement. 💻 Remote Work Options: Coming in a close second is the flexibility of remote work arrangements. With the rise of remote work and the growing recognition of its benefits, professionals are placing a high value on the ability to work from anywhere, allowing for greater work-life balance and flexibility. 💰 Salary, but with a Twist: Interestingly, while salary remains an important consideration, it has taken a back seat to other factors such as growth opportunities and remote work options. This highlights a significant shift in mindset, with professionals prioritizing factors beyond just monetary compensation. That doesn’t mean job seekers aren’t looking for competitive salaries aka base and other compensations if applicable and not a range that is not the competitive range. It’s evident that professionals are seeking more holistic benefits and opportunities in their job searches, placing emphasis on factors that contribute to long-term satisfaction and fulfillment. As organizations adapt to meet these changing priorities, they have the opportunity to attract and retain top talent by offering comprehensive benefits packages and embracing flexible work arrangements. #thankyou #publichealth
