Thank you to the the Energy Efficiency Association CIC for the opportunity to speak on behalf of Ofgem this week about our role in administering a range of governmental environmental and social schemes, such as the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4), and for the chance to hear how we can continue to better support the supply chain in delivering these projects.
From calling for greater clarity as to the future direction and investment potential of these schemes, to simplifying the often complex landscape in which they are situated, it was clear as to the key next steps needed to provide consistency and stability for the market.
ECO4 is a governmental scheme that offers a range of insulation and renewable heating measures for vulnerable consumers, with the intent of tackling fuel poverty, and lowering the carbon footprint of Britain’s housing stock. And amidst the aftermath of a crushing cost-of-living crisis, and with roughly 13% of households in England and Wales and 25% of households in Scotland and Northern Ireland still found to still be living in fuel poverty, it is obvious that schemes like ECO remain more salient than ever.
Here's to both scaling up and simplifying down our national energy efficiency schemes, to ensure access to affordable and green energy is there for all households across society.
