Credible & actionable data is a key pillar of SLCP’s new 5-year strategy. As a relatively young multi-stakeholder initiative, we have learned a lot during the first five years of implementation of our converged social assessment tool, and from the feedback we have received from stakeholders. In addition, the context in which we operate has changed, with the fast-paced development of the regulatory landscape over the last few years. In a series of #SourcingJournal guest articles (3), we will set out our current thinking on the importance of streamlined and trusted data in the implementation of Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) and, in particular, the role we envisage for SLCP in facilitating the collection and sharing of such data. In this first article we underline the need for an evolution of traditional audits and how a genuine multi-stakeholder approach is key for 'for fit for purpose' tools. Different actors need trusted data to support more effective due diligence, to drive remedy and prevention, to improve purchasing practices, and to inform evidence-based policymaking. In such an holistic vision, tools should be rooted in international labor standards and national labor law. Governments must play a critical role in ensuring the durable protection of their citizens, including workers in facilities. #SLCP #HRDD #Multistakeholder #decentwork #globalsupplychains
