The standardization of network APIs is putting network control directly into the hands of the satellite customer. APIs offer greater transparency and control for end users—and they also allow telcos and other network operators to give the end user network access, control, and configuration capabilities. APIs are quickly becoming big business for telecom companies, who can profit every time an API “call” occurs. Network disaggregation and SDN bring commercial, operational, and strategic benefits to all providers of fixed broadband infrastructure. It underpins a lot of Broadband Forum’s standards work and it addresses the needs identified and requested by service providers. This approach ensures fibre providers do not need to buy separate control plane management platforms for each access node or BNG and that they can expand their networks faster with fewer OPEX costs from downtime for network upgrades. Customers are in need of services that they can incrementally pick and choose, and this can be enabled by pushing disaggregation closer to the end-user. Thanks to Annie Turner at Mobile Europe for taking the time to talk. https://lnkd.in/ebNVg-mu

In today's fast-evolving optical networking landscape, ensuring network resilience and swift recovery from failures is paramount. Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS)-based restoration methods have long been the industry standard for addressing optical network disruptions. However, as networks grow more complex and the demand for flexibility increases, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) emerges as an innovative approach that enhances the flexibility and programmability of networks while offering more efficient and dynamic restoration capabilities. In this blog, we will explore how SDN-based restoration techniques can significantly improve network resilience, offering faster recovery and greater adaptability. Find out how from Teresa Monteiro and Suman Prasad on the Infinera blog: https://lnkd.in/g5U-4Rtb #NetworkFailures #NetworkResilience #NetworkAutomation #OpticalNetworking
