At EU-Startups Summit, hundreds of early startupers and investors are gathered. As I am about to leave Malta and return to Barcelona, my key takeaway is that AI is in every discussion. Even speakers who aren’t in that field are questioned on changes generated by the surge of AI in all aspects of their business. To be honest, I find it a little excessive. While I don’t deny nor ignore the changes, I agree with what I heard a smart guest saying : “start with formulating the real need of your client. Then you can think about the answer and explore if AI can help. AI is not a product. What a one-year personal and company AI journey looks like. This week I attended two interesting meetings focused on the startup ecosystem and, of course, AI was mentioned a time or two. Here are my thoughts. The University of Luxembourg incubator did a pitch practice at First Flight Venture Center. The startups spanned categories from music to genomics and most highlighted their use of AI. Earlier in the week, in an interesting point-counterpoint discussion between an investor and a founder, organized by Founder Institute, the investor said that he is not interesting in investing in any AI startups because the field is too crowded. My takeaways: > AI for the sake of AI is no longer interesting. > AI is a tool -- a very powerful tool -- but it is becoming table stakes. It is what you do with AI that is important. > If everyone is using the same tool, how you use AI and what data is used to train it makes the real difference. Important for a startup or challenger brand seeking to stand out. And lastly, this week, Tim McCracken posted a video that he made from a 1940s photo of his grandparents.
