Geneva Center for Business and Human Rights’ Post

This morning, at the event "Multinationales et PME: Relever ensemble le défi de la durabilité," organized by the Groupement des Entreprises Multinationales (GEM) in partnership with the Fédération des Entreprises Romandes (FER), we explored how both multinational corporations and SMEs can navigate new sustainability regulations. In her keynote, Prof. Dorothee Baumann-Pauly emphasized that while compliance reporting may seem tedious, the positive socio-economic impact that corporations can generate is truly exciting. She highlighted the importance for companies not to feel overwhelmed by this avalanche of new legislation, but rather to prioritize a few salient human rights risks and make sustainability targets measurable. To achieve this, companies should train their teams in a way that makes respect for human rights a business reality in everyday practice and across all relevant functions. Dorothée Baumann-Pauly refocused the discussion on the true significance of these new regulations, emphasizing their fundamental objective, which include respecting the rights of workers and communities affected by corporate activities. She stressed the importance for companies not only to comply with these new laws but also to understand why and how they can play a crucial role in creating a positive and concrete impact in the world. https://lnkd.in/eDYfgR7A #bizhumanrights #sustainability #SMEs #Multinationals
