How do you lead a team to meet production targets? ✏️ The first step will be to set a realistic target that is out of the teams comfort zone so that it provide a learning opportunity and still within reach when the team focused their effort. The next step will be to trust the team and equip them with the necessary tools for them to achieve the target. Lastly as the business owner, one should create the environment where the team feel protected from external factors so that they can focus on their task on hand.

Here’s another tool we use with our clients. This is the Cycle of Continuous Improvement. When I’m working with teams—I like to use maps when facilitating—like the Cycle of Continuous Improvement. This helps to unlock another part of the brain as I begin to ask the team questions and they discover they have the answers. My role is to help the team unlock information they have stored in their brains and get it out for discussion—whether it’s improving a product, process or system.

Are you measuring your team's performance? Firstly, consider the performance of the TEAM. Avoid delving too deeply into individual tricky situations that may undermine confidence. Remember, we aim to contribute to the improvement of our team as a whole. Some interesting points you can measure are: 🔹 Deployment frequency ➙ we'll get data about our SW pieces and it'll contribute to our positive motivation, feedback, costs. 🔹 MTTR ➙ time to recovery, repair, respond, or resolve the team's services when they're down. 🔹 Delivery Lead time ➙ How much time does it take for a feature, from its definition by the business, to be delivered in production? (the entire lifecycle). 🔹 Error rate in production changes ➙ The % of changes sent to production that require bug fixes, hotfixes, reversions, etc. Do you agree? Are you using anything else to help? just share it

Imagine having your process so well defined, that all your tasks get created automatically, assigned to the right team members, linked to the right SOPs for your team to follow. That's the power of standarization.

Transparency within a product team can’t be overemphasized. Every team member should understand the 'why' behind their tasks and the project's overall goals. This alignment not only increases motivation but also leads to better outcomes. In my experience, teams that maintain clear communication and share updates regularly are more successful.

The first framework is used when the team is brand new to the project and there’s a lot of unknowns. The second framework is helpful when a team has a strong understanding of the risks and just needs to prioritize which one to focus on.

Focus on giving advice to novice managers and focus on explaining phronesis. Interpret creatively how phronesis and a first experience managing a team can go hand in hand. Do not talk about agile.
