From Rejection to Triumph: My Unrelenting Journey to Becoming a Remote Data Analyst.
#Linkedin I still chuckle when I think about my job hunt saga. It's a story of rejection, perseverance, and ultimately, triumph.
In April 2024, few months into being a Corp Member , I embarked on a mission to land a remote Data Analyst role. With a list of Fintech and Agricultural companies in Ibadan, Lagos, and Abuja, I sent out 20 cold emails on the first day but got Zero responses. I won't lie, it stung.
I refused to let disappointment discourage me though. I remembered why I started this journey in the first place – my passion for data analysis. So, I continued sending emails, refining my pitch, and connecting with potential employers on LinkedIn.
Days turned into weeks, and the rejections started pouring in. Some were kind, while others... well, let's just say I learned what not to do. One person even told me I shouldn't be messaging people without an appointment. Ouch! That one still makes me laugh😂.
Then, something shifted. Strangers started praising my CV and determination. Godsent Ndoma Zoom chat was a game-changer, fueling my motivation and giving me newfound confidence.
With renewed energy, I continued applying to Easy Apply posts and reaching out to Lagos-based companies. Suddenly, responses poured in – some forwarded my CV to HR, others scheduled interviews! My accountability partner, Fasobu Adekemi , helped me prep for those interviews, while ABDULSALAM OMORE was the mastermind of the job-hunting tips.
Before I knew it, I landed an interview with Kitovu Technology Company for an Operations Intern role. I was stunned – I had applied through LinkedIn without realizing it! The interview with Adedolapo Raheem was a breeze, thanks to my prep.
Fast forward to July, I started as a Remote Operations Intern. It wasn't the Data Analyst role I wanted, but it was a foot in the door. I worked extensively with real-life data sets, analyzing employee attendance and performance, cleaning and analyzing inventory sales data, Extensive research on market trends, and creating KPI forms e.t.c
The experience was priceless. I honed my problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication. My uncle's wise words echoed in my mind: "Everything is not all about money; gain experience first."
Today, I'm still striving for that Data Analyst role with a good pay package. But I'm proud of my growth and the lessons learned along the way.
Key Takeaways:
- Perseverance beats rejection
- Networking works
- Experience triumphs over money (sometimes)
