What I am doing is raising awareness on what Girls on the Run can do, and what we get to do is take a girl who is incredible at her core and help her discover her potential. SO WHAT? We believe that if girls are given a "how to be a great person" toolkit, which includes strong values, belief in ability, kindness toward others, and giving back to their community, maybe, just maybe, it will be these very same girls who DO in fact · find a cure for cancer · solve the homeless issue · find ways to prevent abuse and neglect · or slow climate change Like education, investing in a long-term solution for societal ills seems wise. Building self-esteem and establishing motivation to give back seem like great starting points. Why does this all matter? Grateful to serve the grantees of the Simons Foundation yesterday and got to catch up with friends Brooke Richie-Babbage, molly delano, and Becky Endicott, CFRE! My roundtable was about Demystifying Money...you know I'm all about talking about the money, honey! Some powerful takeaways: 1) We all have money baggage and trauma no matter who you are, how much you had (or didn't) and it takes conscious, intentional effort to recognize and shift the thought patterns. 2) Your self-worth should not be tied to outcomes. Whether you get the gift or not is ultimately not up to you. Regardless, you are worthy. 3) Fundraising is like creating art. You are not going to be for everybody, so find your people and help them be part of something greater than themselves. 4) Money is energy. We are but the vessels through which it flows so we need to be conscious of the blocks that we construct that restrict the flow. 5) Change starts with our identities and our decision to BE the kind of person who embraces fundraising. Ok - so you may be one of those people who saw all the #GivingTuesday posts and thought it would be good to support them but ended up not doing anything. I am talking about supporting one of the amazing Foster Care Organizations in Georgia by making a donation through the Fostering Success Act Tax Credit. As long as you are a Georgia taxpayer, you can be approved (it just takes a few minutes) and make a donation then get 100% of the money back when you file your taxes in 2025. Below is a link to the Goshen Valley website (the Foster Care Organization I support) which has an easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to take advantage of this. When you go to the State of Georgia website you will see the other 38 approved FCO's if you want to find one in your area.
