Ever made a decision just because it felt “obvious” at the time? That's availability bias in action. It’s when we base decisions on what's right in front of us, not what’s actually most important. Startup founders fall into this trap all the time. A few customers love your product, and suddenly you’re convinced you’ve hit gold. But here’s the problem - without broader market research, you might be building something for the minority, not the majority. And when it comes to raising funds, availability bias can be lethal. Chasing short-term wins or flashy metrics might seem like the right move, but investors care about the long game. So next time you're about to make a call, ask yourself: Am I looking at the full picture or just the closest thing in front of me? #availabilitybias #theunbiasedfounder #cognitivebias #founder #successfusion

In episode 11 of our DeepDive series, my colleague Nic shares how to turn VC feedback into actionable insights to boost your fundraise. 👇
When venture capitalists ask a startup founder for their company's metrics, few instinctually respond with, “Sure, we’d love to share!” After all, opening up the books and showing your numbers can feel vulnerable. And why can’t VCs just look at the pitch deck?! Handing over the P&L and financials can seem antagonizing, unnecessarily subjecting yourself to scrutiny. BUT the process can actually be beneficial FOR YOU and your company. In this video, Nicolas shares 5 actionable tips to maximize your fundraising process. Discover how VC scrutiny can lead to valuable insights you can use to your advantage. Let’s dive in. 👇 https://lnkd.in/gFmiKSXE

This week I have seen several notable VCs write doom and gloom LinkedIn posts about the markets and why founders should take their money now while they still can. What they’re really trying to do is scare young or first time founders into taking more of their money so they can own more of the company early on and better remodel their house in Atherton after the founder slogs for ten years on their startup. Here is my view. I don’t care about the markets. I really don’t. Build such a great business that you don’t have to care about the market or get scared or tricked by VCs into giving up even more of your company to them so they can benefit from your hard work. The markets are a distraction. Fundraising is a distraction. Focus on what matters. Focus on the right thing.
