Excluding walking, just over half (51%*) of the Scottish adult population participate in physical activity and sport. With more people in Scotland participating in multigym/weight training and keep fit/aerobics than any other physical activity like swimming, golf or football, do we really provide enough free to use infrastructure so that everyone no matter age, ability or circumstances can get moving? At KOMPAN we want to help communities gain more access to 'effective' outdoor training #PhysicalActivity #Scotland #HealthandWellness *Scottish Government Household Survey 2022

Oh dear, doesn't reflect well on the government: "Did Singapore underestimate costs of hosting World Aquatics Championships? Singapore will hold some of the competition’s events in a temporary pool in a car park, with some sources saying costs in the initial hosting bid were underestimated." Well that will look great on photos of the event and the videos, swimming in a car park!! 😲🙄🤣 Apparently this is costing $100m!!! I can think of better things to be doing with $100m! Can't you. Worth hosting or a waste of money? What do you think? https://lnkd.in/gZuGduZh

It's a big week for urban outdoor swimming! The River Seine is declared safe for Paris 2024 Olympics events AND the Swimmable Cities charter is out! Many cities - like Glasgow - will have rich but hidden histories of swimming. I'm hoping my University of Stirling PhD research can help support communities to re-imagine and tell new stories about their urban waterways as part of the global movement for Swimmable Cities. See more in my The Conversation UK article
From the Clyde to the Seine, rediscovering Glasgow’s history of urban swimming could help shape the future of swimmable cities

During OI a test run for the marathon swimming event in the Seine River was cancelled due to high levels of faecal bacteria, exceeding World Aquatics standards! This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in water quality management. Yes, there were significant investments, yet fluctuating bacteria levels have impacted both triathlon and marathon swimming events. It's not just the UK water system that has suffered from underinvestment, this is a widespread and alarming issue. Let's hope that governments worldwide take note and prioritize sustainable water management. #waterquality #sustainability #OI #publichealth #environmentalprotection

Are accreditation cards with lanyards a must have of sport events? Could this approach (pls. see below the photo) be a small step to make (sporting) events greener…? As part of the future OC team of the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) to be held in Budapest between 10-15th December 2024 we had the pleasure to attend the World Aquatics Championships in Doha earlier this year. As part of the observer programme, we had a nice conversation with the accreditation team (María Peralvo Simón, Lorenzo Tarenghi Juan Manuel Sarria Pastor Jovana Zrnzevic) of World Aquatics when we came up with the idea to produce smaller sized (matching the parameters of a business card) accreditation cards, which could be put in the back of the cell phone case. Last week we organised the Hungarian swimming national trials, where we tested this concept. Even if not everyone has a transparent cell phone case, the idea was well received, it was easy to use and naturally it was always at hand. One of our swimmers proposed to make a sticker version, as some people do not use cell phone case, while others have colourful (so not transparent) types. We understand that in case of more complex events (continental or even World Championships, multisport events) this version might not always be a fitting solution for all the different user groups (e.g. athletes, OC staff/volunteers, contractors, VIP guests, etc.) BUT we believe that there is always room for improvement and innovation, especially if there is a sustainable component involved. As the signatory of the Sports4Nature framework the Hungarian Swimming Federation is devoted to make our planet greener and our waters cleaner. #sports #sustainability #sportsbusiness

𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮'𝐬 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱’𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 While Standards Australia agreed to review these standards, Standards New Zealand did not participate in the revision process due to internal resource limitations at that time. Consequently, the revision proceeded solely as Australian Standards, which were reviewed and published in 2021 as follows: • AS 1838:2021 - Swimming pools: Premoulded fibre-reinforced plastics – Design and fabrication • AS 1839:2021 - Swimming pools: Premoulded fibre-reinforced plastics – Installation As a result, New Zealand has been left to use the outdated 1994 versions of these standards. 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗦𝗔’𝘀 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 As a unified industry, SPASA began discussions with Standards New Zealand in early 2022 to explore how to update the Australian Standards for the New Zealand swimming pool and spa industry. In mid-2024, Standards New Zealand agreed to review the fibreglass standards. A dedicated committee has now been appointed by Standards New Zealand to assess the Australian standards and determine their suitability for New Zealand. 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗦𝗔 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 SPASA’s investment in updating the Standards for the New Zealand industry is substantial, demonstrating our commitment as the peak body for the swimming pool and spa industry in New Zealand. Once updated, New Zealand manufacturers, installers and consumers will benefit from modern standards that incorporates the latest technologies, materials, design, and installation practices.
