The best global founders come to Silicon Valley. As a French investor, this wasn't easy to accept. But look at the data: France has: - World-class engineering schools - Brilliant developers - Strong government support - Growing tech scene Yet our best engineers often move to SF. Why? Silicon Valley offers: - 2-3x higher salaries - Concentrated venture capital - Stronger exit opportunities - Global-first mindset This is why YC works. They attract ambitious founders globally, then plug them into the Valley ecosystem. The result is a talent flywheel that keeps getting stronger. Sometimes the best opportunities aren't in your backyard.
And if you want to work in fashion it’s Paris or Milan. And Hollywood for movies. And London or NY for musical theatre.
it’s not necessarily this but more the mindset. Do you have the US mindset or not, that’s the main driver. Also agreed on what you said as well + everything goes super fast as well in the US (taking decisions, taking risks)
Maybe 1975-2000 less so now..most funds too large too risk averse need to deploy too much..but broader point is right...$$ spirit freedom support system angels fam offices vcs pe are in USA not EU....
Silicon Valley mindset is by far the main reason, you want to surround yourself with extremely ambitious people, rather than European risk adverse mindset...

1moFrance should hike their salaries at least at par with London/Munich, then France would be more attactive for high quality of life (affordable schools, day care for kids, affordable healthcare; all these stuff are exorbitant in Bay Area, yet earning 2-3x more most are unable to afford in the Bay Area) and work life balance. No one in the valley can imagine to get paid 2-3x by working 35hrs/week and getting 6 weeks paid vacation
