I keep coming back to this #HR article and can almost feel the pain and frustration that many in this profession face. It's not an easy task to manage humans and most HR professionals I know want to do JUST that -- create an environment that allows people to do their best work possible. While I think HR / #workplacetech (for the most part) gets it right in many ways, there is still work to be done to improve systems, outputs and processes that support HR professionals and allow them to focus on the HUMAN work (vs the tech work). https://lnkd.in/gH5Y7gb2

I wish this wasn’t hidden behind a paywall. I would love to read the content. But, in my opinion, it’s less about being liked and more about being respected. There are real people that all of our decisions effect and we need to remember that. We do need to lead with compassion and kindness. But I’m never going to make everyone happy. HR team members need to get comfortable with that feeling, if they want to be in the career for the long haul. However, it does need to be reminded: HR advises. It is leadership that makes many final decisions. (So as a couple examples, sometimes HR advises that the toxic employee is held accountable and leadership doesn’t follow through, and sometimes HR advises for that extra day off to be added to everyone’s calendar, but leadership says no).
“People hate us." Of course they do! Employees have always hated HR. And the best HR pros aren't trying to change that sentiment. They strive to do their best in spite of it. The reality is that employee dislike of HR is not a problem to fix. It is an inherent part of the job description for every HR pro.
