How would the world be different if everyone was fulfilled at work? What if people found the right path for themselves sooner, and once they found it, accelerated their ability to be successful in their new field? In today's reality, the gap between education and the modern workforce is wide and needs to narrow substantially to prepare today's youth for tomorrow's workforce. This is one of the reasons for our recent acquisition of the Teacher Career Coach ®.

Every morning, I am greeted not just by tasks, but by a sense of purpose. So few professions can boast the inherent satisfaction that comes with guiding and shaping the minds of the young people in our schools. I stand witness to the impact we have in the lives of young individuals, particularly in their crucial post-16 education decisions. One of the most pivotal stages in a student's life is the transition from secondary education to post-16 education. It's a time of choices, uncertainties, and aspirations. There are academic pathways, vocational pathways, apprenticeships. The power of informed decision-making cannot be overstated. Through workshops, assemblies, interactive sessions, and more, we arm students with necessary insights into their post-16 options. We dissect the complexities and amplify the opportunities available to them. Witnessing young people go from unsure to understanding. Hearing the assurance in their voices. It is a testament to the impact of the effort School Engagement teams put in across the country. I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Blessed with the opportunity to play a part, however small, in sculpting the educational choices and nurturing the potential of our youth. I am reminded of the profound privilege in our vocation. Each day is not just a job but a blessing – a chance to inspire, empower, and shape the future generation.

Today Teach First have released a report outlining the challenges of attracting Gen Z to teaching. Lot's of positives to take from this of things already happening across the sector, but lot's to reflect on also about how we adapt and flex amidst a changing market. Attitudes to teaching have changed. There is a recruitment and retention crisis in our schools. Insight into attitudes of the next potential generation of teachers can only help us better understand how to transform how teaching is perceived and ultimately get every child the education experience they deserve. https://lnkd.in/ggx2jKj3
📰 Today we've released a new report that sets out how we can attract Gen Z to teaching. We commissioned Public First to poll 16 to 24-year-olds on their attitudes to careers, particularly teaching. 📊 The research found that a significant pool of Gen-Z have an initial interest in the teaching profession but many want a less linear career and would value professional experiences from different sectors. This group believe it would be easier to do something innovative in a sector outside of teaching. We can change this perception by expanding professional development opportunities for teachers, including secondments to relevant industry sectors outside the classroom, enabling them to return with new skills, enthusiasm, and energy. 🔗 Our Summer Projects connect current and past Teach First trainees with non-sector based professional development. It’s an opportunity to build on career development objectives and take new skills back to school. Adopting this approach through a central pot of funding, innovative partnerships with businesses, or international education institutions could deliver this at a national scale. Important research from Teach First, with useful suggestions to make teaching more attractive to Gen Z. The recruitment and retention crisis is a worry for all schools, but it disproportionately affects schools in deprived communities. Measures such as enhancing financial incentives and increasing flexibility will help to provide additional incentives to ensure that the best teachers are able to work in the most disadvantaged schools. Tackling this crisis must be a top priority.

Happy Workforce Development Month! What is "workforce development?" As I was thinking about it, I came across this picture from a year ago where employers, elected officials, city and county government employees, non-profit leaders, university administrators and faculty, community college administrators, local workforce development board staff, industry association representatives, and workforce development program staff came together to learn best-practices and think about how to lead change in their local workforce area. In some ways, that is what the workforce development system is: an opportunity to align and collaborate to better meet the needs of job seekers, workers, and employers. Interesting report from Teach First on how to address teacher shortages by attracting Gen Z to teaching. Targeting funding to schools supporting the highest levels of disadvantage is crucial! In addition to investments in secondments for teachers and strategic partnerships with businesses or international education institutions, government needs to invest in developing teachers’ digital skills. This would help them make better use of #AI and #digital tools to reduce workload and improve learner outcomes.
