Lisbon is a special place for me especially when it comes to Web Summit. This journey of being a founder is a lot more than just tech and innovation. It’s about action and execution. For me travel has always been a form of personal education for me. It’s shaped me as a human not just in how I see the world but how I lead my alternative approach to building Ferna Tech. Prioritising travel and “work from anywhere” is how we are able to build excellent founders and scale excellent ventures for precise audiences. Heading back to Lisbon in a month with our Ferna Tech delegation — is a testament to why I do what I do. Building spaces for founders to grow and thrive globally and returning with a team and a group of community founders has made me the proudest CEO. No matter your take on this year’s Web Summit, one thing’s clear: you couldn’t miss the impressive array of city and country stands vying for attention. Now at the close of Day 3—having logged again nearly 10 kilometers in the process—here’s my recap of the day’s highlights. In a global race to attract investment and innovation, national and local government organizations put their best foot forward, pitching to investors and startups alike. Each city and country aims to showcase why their location is the ultimate choice for expanding tech initiatives, emphasizing key advantages like tax incentives, thriving ecosystems, and access to skilled talent. This “geo-strategy” of investment is becoming more nuanced, as cities and countries each carve out specialized niches—some focusing on AI research, others on clean tech, and still others on fintech hubs—creating a complex and fascinating landscape of opportunity. This might give a lot to think about, but let me focus on this thought: as more enterprises go global, the race to attract investment, jobs, and talent locally becomes even more critical. It’s a monumental challenge, and I don’t envy the authorities trying to navigate it. As the day winds down, I can’t overlook the lineup of outstanding speakers. Several sessions were simply unmissable. Without singling anyone out (because I’d miss too many remarkable voices), the sheer number of packed stages across five pavilions shows just how eager participants are to engage with the latest insights and innovations.
