Associate Professor @ Universiti Putra Malaysia | PhD in Housing & Management in the Built Environment
I'm deeply engrossed in my thesis work on FlexZHouse, and I find immense inspiration in John Habraken’s architectural philosophy, particularly his seminal work, "Supports: An Alternative to Mass Housing." Habraken’s innovative separation of 'support' (the long-lasting framework) and 'infill' (the customizable spaces) aligns perfectly with the FlexZHouse principle of adaptable, user-centric living environments. Like Habraken, FlexZHouse champions modular units that can be reconfigured, expanded, or modified according to the residents' needs, emphasizing sustainability and community involvement. This approach not only facilitates a dynamic interaction between the structure and its inhabitants but also integrates modern technology to enhance functionality and adaptability. Habraken's vision encourages us to rethink how buildings can serve as durable 'supports', while also adapting to technological advancements and evolving lifestyle demands. By applying these ideas, FlexZHouse is set to transform the concept of living spaces, making them more flexible, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of their communities. Let’s explore how these transformative concepts can be further applied in our projects and collaborations to redefine residential spaces for modern living. #Architecture #HousingInnovation #SustainableDesign #CommunityBuilding #FlexZHouse #JohnHabraken #openbuilding

Excited to share this feature on RITHM in this month’s edition of #FloridaTrend which if you don’t already know about RITHM, it’s a visionary urban redevelopment project that’s coming to life in Uptown Tampa, FL, and spearheaded by my brilliant father Christopher Bowen for RD Management LLC. This massive redevelopment project is currently in the midst of transforming an important yet historically neglected urban space (a 113-acre, 1970’s regional shopping mall property, bordering the University of South Florida campus) into a vibrant creative neighborhood in the heart of Tampa’s Uptown, a burgeoning innovation quarter and emerging arts district, after decades of neglect exacerbated by the perpetuation of a toxic perception of this “area” as destined to be blighted and basically an ‘unsolvable problem’ forever. I’m beyond proud of my father's hard work, dedication, creativity, vision and leadership on display here. After observing this man in action my whole life, and witnessing him knock down every obstacle that’s ever stood in his path, I’m firmly convinced there isn’t anything he can’t accomplish if his heart and mind are behind it (…and I truly mean that). Seeing his vision for Uptown come to life in ways that a lot of people prognosticated would never, ever happen and that he’s wasting his time trying, is just one example of a million that makes him an absolute legend in my eyes. Like it or not, Uptown is going 🆙 in a big way. It’s no longer even a question at this point, it’s a fact of reality. 🚀🚀🚀 Link to Florida Trend March 2024 Edition: https://lnkd.in/gMNVzZbF #RITHM #Uptown #Tampa #FloridaTrend #Innovation #Arts #Technology #RealEstate #Web3 #AI #ComputerScience #STEM

THE DISTRICTS VISION We believe in a future where the boundaries between the digital and physical worlds are not just blurred but intertwined. Districts is our canvas, and the vision is to empower creative professionals from all walks of life to craft this vision into reality. It's about redefining the concept of ownership, where digital land isn't just a plot on a screen but a canvas for your imagination. It's about empowering communities that transcend geographical constraints and cultural barriers and where innovation thrives. #Districts #VirtualRealEstate #DecentralizedFuture #OwnYourLand #DigitalInnovation #FutureFrontiers #DreamDesignDistricts

I love this: "Finally, what advice do you have for those starting their career? Would your advice be any different for women? EL: Feed your imagination well and often, never lose sight of what brings you joy, and take care of yourself. OO: Be curious; ask the follow up question. Look intentionally at things to figure out how they go together. Find a friend that speaks honestly to you. And finally, sketch, sketch, sketch!"

🏙️ Big News for Downtown Raleigh's Future! 🌟 On behalf of Downtown Raleigh Alliance and the City of Raleigh Municipal Government, I am thrilled to share the first set of recommendations from the Downtown Raleigh Economic Development Strategy led by consultant team Interface Studio, &Access, and Ninigret Partners. These first TEN big ideas focus on activating Fayetteville Street- revitalizing the street as well as the surrounding business district. Given the street’s prominence for the city and state, revitalizing Fayetteville Street and the adjacent downtown core is essential for downtown’s future and is a key element of this overall strategy effort. Ideas include embracing opportunities for improving streetscapes, creating family-friendly events and activations, positioning Fayetteville Street as North Carolina’s Main Street, and creating more defined shopping & dining and cultural arts & entertainment districts. 📱 Check out the ten big ideas for yourself on your mobile or desktop through the linked e-reader version of the report, including exciting visualizations and detailed recommendations. On a personal level, I am really looking forward to seeing all of the good that can come from these ideas. It has been many years of advocacy work to get this point of first recommendations for such a significant civic street and central business district. Those that have been in Raleigh know that the street itself has been in need of new strategic direction and repositioning since before the pandemic. Excited now to see reinvestment in the public realm, new vitality, and meaningful support & attention for our local, downtown small businesses. Of course, these ideas need support to see implementation. For the betterment of our downtown and its many stakeholders, we will need advocates and community members to speak up and support the policy changes and funding needed to make it happen! 📣 -- The Economic Development Strategy process is at the halfway point, with more work to come refining Fayetteville Street recommendations as well as a more comprehensive, downtown-wide strategy document anticipated in mid-2024 addressing additional scope areas such as office market positioning and catalytic projects. 🌐 Learn more about the overall strategy effort as well as ongoing progress at https://lnkd.in/gu2Dbm3P #DowntownRaleigh #EconomicDevelopment #CommunityEngagement #FuturePlanning
