FuelsEurope’s Post

The momentum for a balanced approach to decarbonising transport is growing. Italy, now with Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, has called for an earlier review of the EU’s regulation ending the sale of new CO2-emitting cars from 2035, as POLITICO Europe reports. This push emphasises technological neutrality: a principle at the core of FuelsEurope’s efforts. There is a future for the internal combustion engine #ICE and that is through the use of renewable fuels, such as biofuels and e-fuels. Biofuels and e-fuels are pivotal in achieving carbon neutrality. They offer a sustainable path forward for the millions of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles that are still on European roads and that will continue to be on the roads for the years to come. By enabling decarbonisation without requiring changes to existing infrastructure, these renewable fuels provide citizens with an effective and practical solution to reduce emissions. As the new European Commission has taken office, this is an opportunity to embrace a path that highlights innovation, technology neutrality and accelerates the EU’s decarbonisation goals without leaving industries or consumers behind. At FuelsEurope, we will continue saying: change the fuel, not the car. Let’s ensure the transition to carbon neutrality is fair, effective, and inclusive.
