Congratulations Ursula von der Leyen on your re-election as President of the European Commission for a second term 👏 Your Political Guidelines for the Next European Commission 2024-2029 hold great promise. Four priorities deserve immediate attention: 1️⃣ Scaling up investments in renewables and renewable hydrogen by maximising public investment. Real success means actual projects taking place in Europe. Bridging the producer-offtaker cost gap must be the top focus if Europe wants to turn its ambition into action. 2️⃣ Ensuring the competitiveness of the European industry by providing access to affordable, renewable, and secure energy supplies and raw materials through a new Clean Industrial Deal. 3️⃣ Introducing a new European Competitiveness Fund to ensure the future of the clean tech industry is made in Europe and that our sector can rely on a resilient value chain. 4️⃣ Making business faster and easier in Europe by ensuring speed, coherence, and simplicity. Staying committed to our 2030 and 2050 goals as our growth strategy and deepening the Single Market. We look forward to working with the next European Commission to deliver these priorities and stand ready to support ensuring that "Europe is decarbonising and industrialising at the same time." We are excited to see the European Commission’s €4.8 billion grant dedicated to net-zero projects, with a strong emphasis on renewable hydrogen and maritime solutions. With support from the EU Innovation Fund, projects in 18 European countries aim to cut nearly 476 million tonnes of CO₂ in their first ten years of operation. To put this figure into context, it's equivalent to the annual emissions from 120 coal-fired power plants. I look forward to speaking at the 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 in Oslo! At the event, I will be sharing my insights on the current state and latest developments of CCUS and Hydrogen sectors in Europe. European carbon capture project pipeline already exceeds 180 mtpa, but only 5% of this capacity is operational or reached the final investment decision. Moreover, less than 30 mtpa of the remaining pre-FID capacity is viewed as sufficiently mature to move forward gradually in the current market environment. Is there anything else policymakers can do to incentivize investment decisions? Can voluntary carbon markets or e-fuels strengthen the business case for CCUS before 2030? When it comes to hydrogen, we started seeing some advancements with the green project pipeline in Europe, yet mainly linked to decarbonization of existing consumption sectors (oil refineries, fertilizers) and driven predominantly by balance sheet financing with moderate public funding support. Can we bring the costs down to truly unlock new demand sectors like heavy industries? Or will sustainable aviation fuels act as the only firm growth driver for hydrogen use in future? My presentation will set the scene for more nuanced panel discussions with lead industry experts on both #CCUS (Kevin Meisel Ulrik Olbjørn Thomas Hüwener Pia Prestmo Svein-Erik Losnegård) and #Hydrogen (Dr. Philipp Steinberg Carl Jørgen B. 🌍 Double victory in EU funding for our green hydrogen projects 🌿💰 🎉 Another milestone achieved! We have been awarded our second EU grant this year, bringing a total of NOK 210 million (approximately €18.2 million) of EU funding dedicated to pioneering green hydrogen projects across Europe. 🌐 This latest grant of €9.2 million, awarded to our subsidiary, VIREON, is a game-changer. It will support the establishment of a network of green hydrogen production and refueling stations across Finland and Denmark.
