A Bright Future Ahead for Frontier Portfolio Company AgriLight! AGRILIGHT Energy, a Start AgriTech Cohort II Graduate, is an innovative Israeli #agrivoltaic #startup that optimizes solar radiation to meet #agricultural crop needs while maximizing #electricity production. Recently, the startup launched its first pilot with the support of Ramat Negev Research Center. This agrivoltaic project utilizes patented two-axis #solar #technology on a rail system to move solar panels horizontally above a vineyard in the #Negev Desert. After the #pilot, scheduled until August 2024, proves successful, AgriLight plans to establish commercial projects in Israel and Spain next year, along with more pilots in Europe, the United States, and Africa. “Agri-Light's solution addresses the conflict of balancing the necessary sunlight for crops and solar panels,” said AgriLight CEO, Udi Wild. “It enables more comfortable plant growth conditions – reducing the temperature in extreme and prolonged weather conditions, protecting against hail and frost, and saving irrigation water due to reduced evaporation." We are proud to support AgriLight’s innovative approach to regenerative agriculture and plant shading. Real-time plant feedback shows higher yield and lower light consumption "We're super excited about the results of this lighting study, as growers can have a 'Green Conversation' for the first time. Roughly speaking, we 'ask' the plant how it feels about producing more biomass, and based on the 'reply' we get, adjustments are immediately made to the growing conditions," says Dr. Jim Stevens, Senior Innovation Consultant at InnoPhyte Consulting, a provider of Science-as-a-Service startup. This UKRI-funded research focuses on a vertical farming system for cultivating basil that optimizes light usage by adjusting it in real-time to meet the plants' needs, addressing the challenge of high energy costs. Amongst others, InnoPhyte aims to show how chlorophyll fluorescence could be used in a feedback system. At the heart of the device is a chlorophyll fluorescence probe linked via computer to LED lights, allowing it to detect plant stress and adjust light intensity accordingly. https://lnkd.in/e5NBQcMq

3600 plants in 2 days!🥬 The UK Agri-Tech Centre team are carrying out a series of trials in our Vertical Farming Development Centre, based at Stockbridge Technology Centre, over this year in collaboration with GyroPlant The project, funded by Innovate UK and BBSRC as part of the 2023 Novel low-emission food production systems funding competition, explores GyroPlant's innovative GyroCups within CEA production systems The UK Agri-Tech Centre team have been testing different prototypes designed by Gyroplant for hydroponic plant production in combination with different substrates, and in the case of the new GyroSnap design, with no substrate necessary at all To compare performance, the prototypes were tested on: 👉Ebb & flood 👉Deep water 👉NFT hydroponic systems In this video, Lucy Rushton and Loke Kha Chun, are harvesting lettuce and kale as part of the project. They are removing all aboveground biomass, counting the number of plants and weighing them to give fresh weight data after 28 days from sowing. We are now analysing the data to determine the best combinations of prototype design, substrate and hydroponic system, which we'll take forward for continued testing in the next iteration of trials. It is great to see Australia investing time and research into Agri-Voltaics (Agri-Solar) as part of their drought-resilient and climate-smart agriculture approach. The Agrisolar AU with Western Sydney University, Federation University Australia and industry partners are collaborating to accelerate agri-solar integration into a more resilient future for Australia. Rather than the renewable power simply going to enrich the 'futures' traders, people are now asking how the host communities can actually benefit in a tangible manner from the renewable energy revolution. With Australian innovations such as MGA Thermal being able to store 'excess' renewable electricity as dispatchable industrial-level heat, Australia is poised to support SME as well as industrial energy users. 'Emission intensity' is becoming a classification on agricultural produce exported, so opting out based on purely political ideologies isn't going to remove the new market's requirements. Agri-Solar offers a solution to co-locate food production and local power production. #agrisolar #agrivoltaics #systemsbaseddesign #systemsbasedthinking #farmersforclimateaction #victorianfarmersfederation #nationalfarmersfederation #communityinclusion #communitycodesign #regionaleconomicbenefits #cleanenergycouncil #regenerativeagriculture #regenfarmersmutual #asiapacificsolarresearchconference #SDG #ESG #carbonemissionreduction #scope123 #ruralenterprise

🌿 What Innovations Does Hydroponics Need to Thrive? Let's Discuss! 🌱 As the hydroponics industry scales, we need key innovations to overcome barriers and make sustainable, high-yield systems a reality for everyone. Companies like BrightFarms and SquareRoots have been leading the charge, and here’s what research and startups are highlighting as the top needs for our sector: Energy Efficiency: Running a hydroponic system 24/7 takes power. Innovations in solar energy integration and energy storage, as seen with partners like Tesla Energy, could reduce operating costs and carbon footprints significantly. Affordable, Nutrient-Dense Inputs: Nutrient solutions can be costly, especially for small operators. New startups like Agritecture are working on affordable, customizable nutrient formulations to enhance yields without breaking budgets. Automation & AI: Streamlining tasks like seeding, watering, and harvesting with AI-driven automation could reduce labor costs and increase precision. This is a game-changer, especially for larger setups. Modular, Scalable Systems: Modular systems that are easy to set up, ship, and expand are essential for making hydroponics accessible globally. Scalable designs, like those from Plenty®, are setting a new standard. 💬 Your Turn! Which of these innovations do you think is most crucial? Or is there something else our industry needs? Comment below, and let’s brainstorm solutions that can shape the future of hydroponics! #HydroponicsInnovation #FutureOfFarming #SustainableAgriculture #AgriTech #SmartFarming #GreenSolutions #VerticalFarming #ModularFarming #HydroponicsCommunity #TechInAg

📢 #Oceanloop Secures €35 Million Investment from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Opens New Opportunity for Equity Investors I’m thrilled to announce that Oceanloop has secured €35 million in venture debt from the European Investment Bank (EIB), backed by the InvestEU program for climate-tech start-ups. This incredible support enables us to expand our sustainable aquaculture technology, scaling up our operations in Germany and launching a new large-scale farming facility in Spain. Indoor farming in recirculating aquaculture systems offers the opportunity to control and optimise almost every parameter to improve the welfare of the farmed species and the use of natural resources. In addition, Oceanloop is already working on digital technologies such as computer vision and AI to detect biomass and stress levels in real time to take optimisation to the next level. “The European Investment Bank supports European tech pioneers with European ambitions that push forward innovative solutions. Oceanloop is a perfect example of our commitment to help start-ups and scale-ups in their growth phase with the right financing solutions”, EIB Vice-President Nicola Beer states. The EIB investment is a powerful endorsement of our mission to lead the way in Europe’s aquaculture and food-tech space. We’re now looking to bring on board equity investors who share our vision for sustainable, resilient food systems and are ready to support Oceanloop’s journey. Let’s transform the future of aquaculture together. #Oceanloop #EIB #InvestEU #SustainableAquaculture #FoodTech #InvestmentOpportunity

5moThe rail system is actual a very good solution but it adds a lot of complexity to the system and might prevent it to be economic. The rail system might be used in a different way, with nets and the capability to free the space for heavy machinery.
