We’re thrilled to be partnered with Nazareth Middle School for this year’s "What’s So Cool About Manufacturing" project! This past week, local students visited our Bethlehem, PA kitchens to capture footage for their project, learning all about Freshpet and how our fresh recipes are made. They’ll spend the winter working hard to showcase what makes manufacturing so amazing, and next spring, the voting begins for the best project in the Lehigh Valley, leading up to the big award show. We’re proud to support the next generation of innovators and show them how exciting manufacturing can be. We can’t wait to see what these talented students create!

In spring 2022, IMA and EdSystems of Northern Illinois University launched the Scaling Transformative Advanced Manufacturing Pathways (STAMP) to boost skilled manufacturing workforce in Illinois and advance equity. In eight regions across Illinois, STAMP supports pathways for secondary students, focusing on historically marginalized students in under-represented groups. At the recent showcase, leaders highlighted efforts to create equitable manufacturing pathways. Here is a wonderful article covering one of the undergraduate researchers in my lab: Branden Spitzer, who is working on mycelium-based biotic materials found in the root systems of mushrooms. We are so lucky to have many incredible students at #MIT, and Branden is an outstanding example! It turns out, he even earned the #MIT Pirate Certificate. Check out the story ⤵
“We have this deep connection to food, the things that we wear, the products around us that we experience or work with every day,” says Branden Spitzer, who earned his bachelor's in DMSE in February. “I hope we can make those things even better using science and engineering.”

These types of relationships are so critical in #edtech. This is another way that industry can better connect with academia.
Stukent's CEO, Jim Holm, met with Idaho’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Debbie Critchfield, to discuss the future of education and how we can continue to equip students for success. As education evolves, it’s crucial that educators have the tools they need to prepare students for their future careers. Our passion for innovation drives everything we do, and through our work with Innovation Partners, we’re creating forward-thinking solutions to meet these needs. We’re excited to see the impact of these innovations in Idaho and beyond!

Every St. Patrick's Day, we reflect and give thanks to a key contributor to modern Statistical Techniques and Quality - William Sealy Gosset. Gosset was Head Brewer at Guinness in the early 1900's where he developed and applied small sample experimental design and analysis. In order to prevent disclosure of company confidential information and techniques, Gosset's work was published under the pen name "Student". His work has laid the foundation to basic statistical comparisons with small samples as applied to many industries employing statistical design and quality methods. His contribution, the widely used Student's t-Test and the underlying t-Distribution for discerning statistical differences using small samples sizes. Today, we tip our glasses and give thanks to Mr. William Sealy Gosset, of whom which was may all be students! #statisticaltechniqes #statistics #designofexperiments

A big part of designing a workshop is minimizing what I say, getting out of the way of coaches and students so they can just do ‘stuff.’ Most teachers (and therefore student expectations) are overly obsessed with perfection. Today I brought up the 64/4 rule. After 4% effort you might have a 64% result. Sharing this ‘failure’ seems like the wrong idea because it has so many deficiencies still. But a healthy culture will see that ‘rapid prototype’ and be able to imagine the real impact. This feedback should be BRUTAL, not because of the low quality prototype, but because these kinds of less-than-viable products can evoke feedback about THE PROBLEM, which often still needs refinement before a real round of prototyping should begin. Most of the time teams focus on highly visible signals. signals that are obvious are also ‘skin deep’ and instead need to be investigated for deeper root-cause. Looking forward to sharing ideas about the competencies of innovators with Marcus “CUS” Carrion and the team at the learning symposium from our 12 mercury cohorts and 19 in-person mercury workshops. Thanks to the support of Air University for the trip out to Edwards this week to support the Test Wing. Test is the way! Ian "Speed" P. | Matthew Welch | Rebecca Kern 🟡🟢

IndustryWeek is holding a contest where they invite high school students to share what manufacturing means to them. Students can submit an essay, video, or image, and standout entries will be published in IndustryWeek. If you know a high schooler interested in manufacturing, tell them about it! This is a great way to get high schoolers talking about manufacturing! We can't wait to see the published entries. 🙂 https://ow.ly/1ii450SxokF #manufacturing
