The International Actuarial Association’s (IAA) Banking Virtual Forum invites you to join the upcoming webinar on: Banking Resilience Risk Management. The conventional approach to risk management involved the estimation of loss distributions from which provisions and capital could be allocated to absorb expected and unexpected losses. But what happens if a tail event occurs and the Bank is faced with recapitalising the Institution? Or with winding down the Institution without impacting the domestic real economy, or drawing on tax-payers funds or propagating stress into the bank sector? The answer to these questions can be found within the Recovery and Resolution Planning regulatory framework. IAA Members and Actuaries are encouraged to attend this event if they are interested in understanding the: 🔹 Reasons why Recovery & Resolution Planning was introduced into the banking sector regulatory environment 🔹 Building blocks associated with Recovery & Resolution Planning frameworks, leveraging global regulatory standards and real-world experiences 🔹 Requirements relating to Valuation in Resolution (ViR) Potential future direction of resilience risk management 🔹 Opportunities for Actuaries seeking a move into the Banking Sector The webinar assumes no prior banking experience and will be presented in a self-contained manner. Speakers: Iain Allan & Steven Claxton Session Moderator: Michael Tichareva Register here: https://bit.ly/48VznDv

What is the most significant issue in banking faced by financial firms that offer asset-based lending and factoring services to exporters? Financial firms offering asset-based lending and factoring services to exporters face significant challenges in regulatory compliance and risk management. These challenges stem from the complex nature of international trade, the variability of laws and regulations across different jurisdictions, and the unique risk associated with asset-based lending and factoring. There are regulatory challenges too. Firms must navigate a myriad of international trade laws and regulations, which can vary significantly from country to country. This includes understanding and complying with anti-money laundering (AML) laws, knowing your customer (KYC) requirements, and sanctions. The complexity increases when dealing with multiple countries, each with its own legal and regulatory framework. The risk management for Asset-based lending and factoring involves using a company’s assets, such as accounts receivable, as collateral. This presents unique credit and operational risk. The value of these assets can fluctuate, and there is the risk of default by the debtor. Additionally, firms must manage the risk associated with foreign exchange rates and political instability in the exporter’s country. Strategies for Mitigation and Compliance: Financial firms are employing various strategies to address these challenges. These include investing in sophisticated risk management and compliance software, conducting thorough due diligence on clients, and staying abreast of changes in international trade laws and regulations. Additionally, firms are increasingly leveraging data analytics to assess and manage risk more effectively.
