William (Bill) Mobley: "The Long, Slow Demise Of Over-The-Air TV" Can Be Fixed. Local Broadcasts are the Real Big Tech Anchors of New TV but Don't Get It. Including Recapturing Revenues they lost. Sad. "In an era of rising streaming costs and cable TV cord-cutting, over-the-air (OTA) television should be experiencing something like a renaissance. After all, it offers free access to major broadcast network fare and local programming without monthly fees. Yet for many viewers, accessing the full range of broadcast signals in their particular market remains frustratingly difficult." https://lnkd.in/gK4j4T24 #NextGenStreaming #FreeCast #YouBundle #NoMoreAppDiving #ota #atsc

July saw a rare increase in TV viewing. According to Nielsen's The Gauge, TV usage spiked thanks to the first days of the Summer Olympics and a rise in streaming. While traditional broadcast and cable TV experienced declines, streaming hit an all-time high, making up over 40% of total TV usage. Sports and new content drops drove the uptick. Cable news viewing saw a strong increase in July, driven by the Republican National Convention and coverage of the assassination attempt on former President Trump. https://buff.ly/3X8OUMS

Interesting read for everyone interested in linear TV & OTT We are seeing linear TV shrinking Y-O-Y from reaching 960 mn people (2019) to less than half (projected) as TV viewership settles down over the next few years. More importantly, as online video continues to explode , garnering higher viewership thanks to the creative freedom & changing user consumption, this 2024 Broadcast bill looks at unified regulations for Linear & OTT. While stakeholder inputs are crucial in this bill as it will impact the Indian broadcasting landscape - one thing is certain , overregulation could dampen the skyrocketing growth of online video. #MediaRegulation #BroadcastingBill #OTT #TV #DigitalFreedom
