"“We know nothing about what is happening inside the party, nor anything about the intentions of the Iranians,” he wrote." This is the hard reality of what the Tlaib Consensus of willful ignorance at Foggy Bottom and among the desk jockeys looking for easy supper looks like. I need $100 and 4-5 hours to buy drinks and a few other treats for a sampling of the near million Persians who live, work and play in Los Angeles, to know precisely what the mullahs are thinking in Tehran. Precisely why Mossad maintains a military intelligence gathering apparatus in Van Nuys and cute graduates ask me to take their pictures with their homies in trendy LA bars. I didn't need any superspy network or 37 pieces of gold bling on an arm to figure this out. This is what organizational empire building looks like. You too can find an easy gig in international relations by continually pushing the line it's all too complex to understand, unless you're a card-carrying member of the privileged elite, given the sea of affirmation bias among those who pay your bills. I know plenty of rich Americans, or whatever you need them to be given the number of legit passports they carry, who make trucks full of cash in Iran. They cover their bets by including the mullahs, the IRS AND the Democratic Party, giving to Republicans is a pointless waste, for a piece of the action (a very small piece), and operate with impunity in these vast hinterlands of the unknowable... Precisely why this election isn't important. The practices of the professional bureaucracy do not change regardless of the empty suit figurehead. Maybe the Porsche-bonus decision makers will decide to rebrand. Boy scouts start as cubs and then move on to Webelos. So Webeollah, or maybe they'll finally fully embrace their inner Insane Clown Posse fetish and become the Juggalollah; as violent followers of middle-aged men dressed as clowns pretending to be hip hop stars by spitting out angry curse words. A lot of shared commonalities there on the Venn diagram of life. https://lnkd.in/gFDPv5Vt

David Friedman: Harris support for Palestinian state will only bring terror, misery - Former US Amb. to Israel slams Vice President for calling for Pslestinian state during presidential debate with Trump. ' She should empower Israel to reach a just and workable solution on its own and not interfere in matters where she is neither competent nor well-informed.' I absolutely agree. There can be no Palestinian state unless and until the PA, Gazans and those in the West Bank PA areas denounce terrorism, show a long track record of denouncing it and show clear and concrete signs and steps to want to live in peace with Israelis. Until such time, and while those people celebrate death of Israelis and indoctrinate their children to kill, the two state discussion is off the table and not up for discussion. The only sure thing for now is that the State of Israel ie the only democracy in the Middle East is and will remain where it is. https://lnkd.in/eTgJWhAb

🌍 Middle East Peace: A High-Stakes Balancing Act 🕊️🤝 The road to peace in the Middle East has always been fraught with complexities, and the players shaping its future are as influential as they are divisive: ✨ Donald Trump - The dealmaker who introduced the Abraham Accords. ✨ Benjamin Netanyahu - A leader navigating political tides in Israel. ✨ Ayatollah Khamenei - The figurehead of Iran's stance on the region. Each of these leaders holds a critical piece of the puzzle, from security alliances and regional cooperation to navigating deeply entrenched rivalries. But will their strategies foster lasting peace or deepen divisions? 🌟 Peace is not just about politics but about people. Sustainable solutions require empathy, innovation, and global collaboration. 💬 What do you think is the key to achieving peace in the Middle East? #MiddleEastPeace #Diplomacy #Leadership #GlobalPolitics #ConflictResolution #Unity #AbrahamAccords #Iran #Israel #FutureOfPeace

The below 3/21/2024 opinion piece is brillant, IMO! Full disclosure, Doug Bloomfield is my former boss. I was his Senior Legislative Assist at AIPAC. I know Doug and his family well. He orchestrated AIPAC's numerous, overwhelming, bipartisan legislative victories in the 1980's. Those were the days! Key phrase to me in Doug's piece is "Biden breaks with Netanyahu but sticks with Israel.” My brother and family have lived in Israel for 35+ years. I am still learning about Israeli culture, which is far different than America's. I think 80% of Israelis agree with Prime Minister Benjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu's Hamas strategy, but Netanyahu is the wrong face and leader for Israel today. Any other Israeli poltician would probably take a similar strategy, yet Israel may regain the higher moral ground, IMO, because of the following: (1) Like ex-President Trump, Netanyahu faces a litany of criminal charges. Staying in office, in power, are both of their "stay out of jail" cards. (2) Unlike Trump, Netanyahu is a professional politican and knows how to work the system. However, while more pure in the past, Netanyahu's interests are all personal now like Trump's. (3) Israel's strategy seems correct. Her messenger is wrong. (4) Eventually, Netanyahu's moving troops from Gaza border to the West Bank pre 10/7/2023 will be found to be a major cause of Israel's unpreparedness on 10/7/2023. (5) The hostages need to be freed. (6) Almost any other Israeli leader will be better than Netanyahu now. (7) Let Israelis decide. I trust Israelis will boot Bibi!! Has a weak-kneed Biden buckled and stabbed Israel in the back? On Monday, the US abstained from voting on a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. America's abstention sent shockwaves and a sense of betrayal across Israel, to which White House National Security Council John Kirby responded (https://lnkd.in/d-wQneEG): "We’re kind of perplexed by this. It’s a non-binding resolution, so there’s no impact at all on Israel’s ability to continue to go after Hamas." As much as I admire John Kirby, this is incorrect. Not all members of the Security Council agree that the resolution is non-binding, e.g. Algeria, Malta, Mozambique and Sierra Lione. Worse still, on Sunday US Vice President Harris threatened Israel with possible consequences if Israel were to go ahead with a major military operation against Hamas in Rafah (https://lnkd.in/dZ-hHcs3). The resolution itself (https://lnkd.in/d4Rxfeic)? Not a single mention of Hamas, its responsibility for the war, or the murder, rape and torture of Israeli civilians on Oct. 7, thus drawing equivalence between the actions of Hamas and those of Israel. In addition, the resolution first calls for an immediate ceasefire and only then calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all Israeli hostages. Yes, the order is important. Moreover, does anyone in the Biden Administration really believe Hamas will immediately and unconditionally release the Israeli hostages? Not a snowball's chance in hell. The resolution even critically undermines the current US proposal under discussion for the exchange of 40 Israeli hostages for 800 Palestinians held by Israel, including 100 convicted murderers. Why should Hamas now accept this? A sad day for Israel. A sad day for the United States. A sad day for Western civilization. November draws near, and Biden's management of foreign affairs and appeasement of Iran become ever closer to that of his predecessor in office.

There are a few reasons why many of Israel’s “friends” are now so vehemently opposed to a major Israeli ground operation in Rafah, as they cite Hamas’ fraudulent civilian casualty numbers as “proof” of their quasi-justified opposition. One issue could be that, according to the UN, it is dangerous to evacuate civilians from Rafah because the rest of Gaza is “littered with unexploded ordinance.” In other words, Hamas booby-trapped tons of roads with explosives ahead of the IDF’s advance — a strategy to pressure the West by putting Israel in impossible predicaments and weaponizing Palestinian deaths produced by Hamas. Another issue, according to Middle East security analyst Seth Frantzman, is that: “Hamas was obviously told from the beginning, maybe even before October 7th, that it would have protection from the West’s closest ally in the region (Qatar) and that the ally would make sure that Israel would be prevented from going into parts of Gaza so that Hamas would get to recover and return to control Gaza.” “This whole war was stage-managed from the start. Israel and people in Gaza are just pawns in it. The control is held by the country (Qatar) that hosts and backs Hamas. That’s why five months in, Hamas controls Rafah and returns to areas in Gaza and there are 134 hostages in Gaza.”6 You can call it a conspiracy theory, and it could be one, but let’s not forget: Ultimately, everything is political and cynical.
Everything is political and cynical.

From a practical standpoint (and a realist perspective), this "war" is pointless except from the point of view of those who benefit from it. This is a good piece to read. #realism #USA
"In all of these conflicts, no one benefits—not Israel, not Palestinians, and certainly not the United States, for whom continuing conflict and instability in the region are not only a draw on our Treasury but a cause of deep harm to our own global standing and national security. But most of all, as I hold my daughter in my arms, I know that mothers cry—Palestinian mothers, Israeli mothers, and American mothers. If Biden has any of the empathy left within him for which he was previously so renowned, it is surely time for him to hear our cries—and do something." My former State Department Colleague, and fellow resignee, Annelle Sheline, PhD, has written an absolutely searing appeal in The New Republic for President Biden to listen to the suffering of people across the region and to end his support to Prime Minister Netanyahu before a further regional escalation occurs. In it she combines a deeply humane empathy for people with a sharply insightful political analysis of the risks of further escalation, particularly in Lebanon. Do read it, below, and then, if you'd like to ask Annelle about it, you can join her and seven others of us resignees for a virtual webinar at noon today - register here: https://lnkd.in/e2-rseyx https://lnkd.in/egG4994w

Israel's Netanyahu Wants Infernal and Eternal War to Save His Political Skin Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel knows How to Survive Politically Almost Better than any political leader at least in the history of Israel. He along with the Israel lobby make it impossible for the US Congress bot only to go after him for his dreadful destruction of Gaza and essentially ethnîc cleansing of Palestinians. The US Congress overall with sone exceptions such as Bernie Sanders will go down in infamy for being largely paid off by the Israel lobby and possibly overly concerned with capturing the vote bank of many but far from all Jewish voters. So much so that despite Netanyahu's apparentwar crimes had been invited to speak. before a joint session of Congress The US political governance is now apparently Israel's tail that wags the government dog. The Global South, China and Russia want nothing to do with much of the US"s policy on Israel and the Palestrina. I accuse the following governments by commission or omission pushing war. A war that distracts from the Netanyahu mass incompetency along with Western intelligence led by US President Biden's intelligence agencies'' lapses in preventing the horrible attack on innocent Israelis on October 7. These countries not standing up enough against Netanyahu United States of America United Kingdom The EU minus Spain and. Norway India In the case of India, a largely well"" run government is seemingly overly interested in preserving its defence partnership and technology with Israel above the concerns for the millions of suffering Palestinians https://lnkd.in/gwP2yDKm

Statement by Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia on a UNSC Briefing on Ukraine https://lnkd.in/guUSNQ9Q https://lnkd.in/gvt-Cusm It is symbolic that it is our British colleagues, who are presiding over the Security Council this month, who pushed through today's meeting, timing it to coincide with the 1,000 days since the Ukrainian crisis reached the hot phase. Once again, we have had a wonderful opportunity to see that for you and your colleagues this briefing is nothing but a flashy media event to vilify Russia and pin on it some hackneyed labels that predictably abounded in the statements by the Western members of the Council. In your country – in Great Britain – Russophobia has become part of the national policy long before February 2022. https://lnkd.in/gBq3MB4f It would suffice to recall at least the ethnic cleansing in Ireland, where after the British conquest remained only 850,000 people out of more than 1.5 million. And during the Second Boer War at the turn of the 20-21 centuries, it was the British who first invented concentration camps and drove civilians into them to make sure that they would not help the Boer army. How many people perished then? – nobody knows, because the British did not consider the indigenous population of Africa as human beings and did not document losses among Africans whatsoever. We do know though that in Kenya, after the Mau-Mau rebellion the British unleashed mass repressions, killing about 300 thousand representatives of this people and another 1,500,000 people were driven into camps and turned into slaves. India also suffered enormous damage during the period of British rule, whereby from 15 to 29 million people fell victim to famine engineered by Great Britain.

Brief thoughts on today's United Nations Security Council vote demanding a ceasefire. Crucially, it is important to note that this push towards a ceasefire is part of a broader trend and worldview which has plagued the global Jewish community for a 100+ years, and which long predates the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict as we know it. In the simplest of terms, it boils down to the fact that Jews - and especially Israelis - are not permitted to sufficiently defend themselves on their own terms. Further, they are certainly not under any circumstance, permitted to "win" a battle, especially if that battle is with an Arab nation or people. For a variety of reasons, which include ensuring Jews and Israelis remain political pawns, that they not fully realize any true and peaceful sense of sovereignty, and that their reality forever remains a distraction for governments around the world, the international community has sought to prevent them from defeating their enemies or - as noted - win a war. Historically - and there are many examples - what we typically see is this: when Jews or Israelis are facing Arab violence, the internationally community caves to whatever demands or grievance the aggressors base their violence on. Conversely, when Jews or Israelis are defeating Arab aggressors - as we've seen since #October7 - the international community mobilizes quickly to not only hit the pause on that defeat, but to undue any potential gains that have been made. All told - we're seeing what we've seen for many, many decades: a concerted push to ensure Jews and Israelis remain in the roles and positions that are of most benefit to others - not themselves.

This is unprecedented in US history. Israel used to have staed-fast support from both Republicans and Democrats and from the whole Jewish community. What is happening now shows how the far-right Netanyahu government has not only reduced the support for Israel in the USA, which mirrors how international support for Israel is falling, but how it also has the divided the Jewish communitys stand on Israel. The harm the Netanyahu government is doing to Israel can not be underestimated. "Nineteen Democratic senators effectively voted to block U.S. arms sales to Israel, in a landmark moment that demonstrates how Israel's standing within the Democratic Party nearly 14 months after the October 7 attack and the ensuing Gaza war and humanitarian crisis have largely defined outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden's foreign policy legacy. Eighteen Senate Democrats voted opposing a $774 million sale of 120mm tank rounds while 19 opposed a $61 million sale of 120mm high explosive mortar rounds in two separate votes. The third and final vote on a $262 million sale of joint direct attack munitions (JDAMs) is ongoing. Liberal and progressive Jewish organizations like J Street and Americans for Peace Now, meanwhile, lobbied in favor of the legislation, setting a new precedent in its own right about prominent Jewish organizations willing to hold Israel accountable in this form."
