"In contemporary times, the efficient use of resources has become one of the biggest challenges for organizations. In the energy sector, proposals to increase operational efficiency with smart grid projects and investments in renewable energy are the main pillars of investments. In addition to technical losses and losses due to energy theft, there are administrative losses or losses in the process, which are responsible for 10% of waste. In this scenario where the search for sustainability and social responsibility, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) practices align with the BPM – Business Process Management methodology, to make the entire process and the investments themselves more efficient. Although it contributes to improving efficiency and return rates, process management presents organizational resistance, due to excessive functional thinking, a culture of resistance, lack of governance, lack of internal knowledge about people and the organization itself. To implement the BPM management model, the sponsor must first know the organization's real maturity level. This study was based on the application of the test to know the level of maturity, using the BPM-BES tool - Business Process Management Model in the Brazilian Electricity Sector, a tool developed for the Brazilian electricity sector, where it was applied in one of the largest electricity distributors. energy in Brazil, with approximately 4.5 million customers. In this research, testing tools were built, where the methodology was applied to create a questionnaire based on bibliographical research based on the dimensions of BPM-BES knowledge. A pre-test group was used to validate the questions created and adapt the terminologies and culture of the sector, resulting in the development of a data collection tool applied in strategic sectors, such as: operational, commercial and service, presenting the results found and proving the hypotheses through validation of the results." https://lnkd.in/dq2MGSyj

In an article published in Het Parool, we provide some arguments how Dutch universities (Universiteiten van Nederland) could proceed with their evaluations of their partnerships with Israeli (knowledge) institutes. All Dutch universities are busy with this task, setting up committees and criteria, one way or the other, at the moment. It is a complex matter. With a large group of people, all working in Dutch academia and with a Jewish background (> 60, fiftyish with their names revealed) and all of us only on our own behalves, we argue: 1) That universities should be very hesitant to make this evaluation at the level of countries or institutes, but should evaluate projects purely based on content. 2) That breaking up collaborations can be harmful and counterproductive, unlike @Maya Wind argues. 3) That universities should best provide guidance for individual researchers to decide themselves. We think that Wageningen University & Research has provided a good example with their decision published a few days ago. Our article has been published online and will appear in the newspaper of Saturday July 13. Please share!

Marc van Oostendorp gave an eloquent speech yesterday in support of higher education in the Netherlands and against the current government's attacks via the budget. As Marc said, "It’s hard to interpret this as anything but an attack on the university itself, on the very institution of independent thought in the Netherlands. It resembles the crackdown on academia seen in other European nations where the radical right is in power: a move to silence organised dissent, not just on societal issues but also e.g. on climate change." I agree with him, and underscore this: "I hope our university leaders join us visibly in this struggle. In times of crisis, it is essential for them to go beyond press releases expressing “concern.” They must publicly condemn not just the cuts but also the politics driving them. If politics opposes our institutions, then our institutions must stand up to politics." The whole speech, in Dutch and English, is here: https://lnkd.in/e7ArZxx4

The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam, want to invite you to the event: True Pricing: Game Changer or Consumer Deterrent to Meaningful Action? Retail prices currently fail to account for negative externalities such as CO2 emissions or worker exploitation associated with manufacturing. These costs now end up in society and will affect the well-being of future generations. True prices incorporate these social and/or environmental costs into the retail price of a product. Is True Pricing a game changer that will fundamentally alter the way we produce and consume goods? Or does it deter consumers from taking meaningful action? Researchers and businesses share their thoughts and insights. One goal of true pricing is to make the hidden social and environmental costs of products more salient to consumers and hence nudge them towards more sustainable consumption choices. Alternatively, true pricing allows consumers to offset the negative externalities associated with the products of their choice by voluntarily paying the true price. The extra revenues generated through true pricing are used to remediate the hidden costs through relevant sustainable investments in organizations that work on solutions to prevent or decrease them. Consumer perceptions of true pricing vary substantially. While some consumers appreciate the transparency as a means to help them choose businesses that prioritize sustainability, others are sceptical and lack trust in the concept due to higher prices and concerns about accuracy and implementation. This symposium, hosted by the Centre for Market Insights (CMI) of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) and the Amsterdam Centre for Responsible Consumption (ACRC) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), will foster a discussion on True Pricing as a movement and potential policy instrument for a more sustainable future. Experts from both industry and academia will present their latest research on true pricing, including a pilot on true pricing currently running at the HvA’s business campus, which stems from a collaboration between the CMI and the Centre for Economic Transformation (CET). The insights and learnings from this pilot will be shared to guide businesses on true pricing and open a critical dialogue on the potential benefits and challenges associated with its widespread implementation. We invite you to join this symposium and help co-create the future of true pricing. The complete program will be published soon! It is already possible to register for the event via the following link: https://lnkd.in/dp5Xvx-S

Joint Statement of the European Science and Innovation Policy Councils on 'The Importance of European and national policies to attract non-European STEM-talent to Europe' "Europe is already experiencing a shortage of skilled labor in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). With this joint statement, we want to highlight the importance of joining complementary strategies together to collectively attract STEM-talent from outside Europe. If we want to reach all of Europe’s goals, for example, those concerning the triple transition to a green and digital economy and society, then we will need a lot more people with those specific areas of skills. Moreover, in this rapidly developing technological age, we expect that the shortage of STEM-talent will persist. … With this joint statement, we want to highlight the importance of joining complementary strategies together to collectively attract STEM-talent from outside Europe". A very welcome statement. Given the high probability of staying in the local labour market after graduation (for a short or somewhat longer period), internationalization in higher education (without renouncing education in the local language) is a crucial lever.
