"The computer will become the predominant medium of communication." – Steve Jobs, 1983 International Design Conference, Aspen. At the 1983 International Design Conference, Steve Jobs foresaw the future of personal computing with uncanny precision. His visionary talk touched on the evolution of the computer as a medium, drawing parallels between personal computers and earlier technological shifts like the electric motor. Jobs believed computers were not just machines but powerful tools for communication, a medium that would transform how we live, work, and create. He coined the term "fractional horsepower computing" to describe the revolutionary power of the personal computer. According to Jobs, this shift enabled individuals to access computing power that was once reserved for large organizations. In his talk, Jobs emphasized how computers would integrate seamlessly into our daily lives, predicting that by 1986, the number of personal computers would surpass the number of automobiles sold annually. He also made a plea to designers, encouraging them to create products that were not only functional but also beautiful, reflecting his belief in the importance of industrial design. Fast forward to today, and we see his vision come to life. From the sleek devices we carry to the powerful systems we rely on, computers have indeed become the "new medium" Jobs spoke about. As we reflect on this iconic talk, we see how far we've come, yet his core message remains timeless: technology, when designed thoughtfully, becomes an extension of ourselves. It's not just about raw power but how it enriches our human experience. 💡 What are your thoughts on Jobs’ vision and how personal computing has evolved? 🔄 Repost and follow us for more reflections on innovation and leadership. #Innovation #Leadership #SteveJobs #PersonalComputing #TechHistory #DesignThinking #DigitalTransformation #FutureOfWork #Entrepreneurship #LeadershipDevelopment #TechInnovation

🔧 Thousands inspired by latest engineering innovations Just a few weeks ago, over 9,800 professionals from the engineering and manufacturing sectors gathered at the NEC, Birmingham, for the 15th edition of Advanced Engineering. This event has become a staple in the industry's calendar, and it was evident why. With more than 400 exhibitors, including giants like Atlas Copco and RS Group, the array of innovations on display was nothing short of transformative. The sister show, Lab Innovations, also added to the buzz, featuring an additional 200 exhibitors from the scientific community. One standout moment came from Dream Big Composites. Their composite smart vacuum system won the Enabling Innovation zone's pitch competition, impressing judges with its ability to automate the critical monitoring of vacuum pumps in composite manufacturing. Mark Prince, the co-founder, highlighted the invaluable networking opportunities the event offered. He commented, "It was just marvellous to connect with likewise businesses that we want to work with in the future." Attendees had the chance to hear from industry titans such as Stephen Phipson CBE, Chief Executive of Make UK, who delivered insights hot on the heels of the Autumn Budget. The converging of minds from major firms such as Airbus, Dyson, and Rolls-Royce illustrated the event's significance. With an uptick in attendance from the previous year and over 60 hours of rich content, it's clear that Advanced Engineering is an unmissable event for the industry. 🌱🚀 #EngineeringExcellence #IndustrialInnovation #SustainableFuture
